your annual chance to buy a frozen yorkshire pudding

We have got battered fish and chips cooking, and a steak pie in the freezer.

I am going to see if they extended it to Switzerland. Thanks for the heads up.

BlauerEngel · 28/01/2010 07:28

Thanks for the tip - we avoid Lidl like the plague normally because it depresses me just going through those doors, but we'll risk a trip for some fish and chips...

admylin · 28/01/2010 07:54

How did the fish and chips taste?
My fussy dd won't eat thick cut chips so didn't bother getting those. Got some of the cheddar to try though.

We've ran out of branston pickle - shame they didn't have that!

nighbynight · 28/01/2010 19:44

Fish not good quality, imo. But we have got some of the big chunks without chips, so we will see how that tastes.
The scampi was v nice, but also ?????.
Children hoovered up the salt and vinegar sticks, and the maids of honour.

why dont you like Lidl, Blauerengel? Its small and friendly in our town, so we always go there, and know everybody.

Sorry that was meant to be euro signs about the scampi - not sure how it got converted to ???. This is a question mark: ?

My husband likes the fish and chips but I don't think they're that great - chips are too thick and the fish is very fishy. We got a lot of cheddar, scampis, some shortbread, marmelade, apple tarts and black currant concentrate. Didn't buy the steak pie this time because we found it a bit gristly last time around.

DebInAustria · 28/01/2010 22:48

Oh I'm - they don't do english week here

admylin · 29/01/2010 07:53

Can you freeze cheddar? I could stock up on it! There is loads left in our Lidl - not many Brits or British food loving Germans around this part of Hannover, mostly Russians.

We got a few tins of baked beans too.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 29/01/2010 08:34

You can freeze cheddar. Sadly, Lidl suisse is offering big dog week, not english food week.

canella · 29/01/2010 10:06

ah the salt and vinegar crisps - dd was jumping round with excitment yest when she saw them! i was more excited by the bakewell tarts! yum!!

not sure admylin if you can freeze cheddar - i bought it the last time and didnt like it so much - not a fan of strong cheddar! Lidl always do an Irish mild cheddar in slices that i like better!

and the beans!! an english speaking friend sent her dh to get some on the way home from his work! he bought 2 tins! she had expected him to come home with a whole tray of them!!!!

FernieB · 29/01/2010 10:31

BTW you can get cheddar in 'Real' or 'Metro' - Metro is brilliant if you can somehow wangle yourself a card. Loads of good stuff in there.

sparkle09 · 29/01/2010 10:49

hehe - i look forward to german week here in the uk.

westvan · 29/01/2010 15:57

I've heard that the cheddar from Lidl doesn't freeze that well - gets kind of crumbly. But if you don't mind that it would be worth a try. We bought five packages and they're good until May. Must try not to eat all of it in one week!

Metro has very nice Scottish and Irish cheddar.

admylin · 29/01/2010 21:13

That's true, we get cheddar at Real supermarkt and the lidl Irish sliced cheddar is good, I'd forgotten about that canella, thanks!

MrsSchadenfreude · 02/02/2010 21:54

If you defrost cheddar at room temperature, rather than in the fridge it doesn't go crumbly.
