Moving to Geneva this apr - jul and we've just had contact from the International School.

There are no places on the Extended Support Programme - now, and unlikely to be in September.

I don't know where to turn

Can anyone help/point me in the right direction?

Many, many thanks for any responses.

Hi
We moved our ds out of I.I.L as their special needs does`nt really count for much

Look at L.C.I.S its near Gland

Or La chat thy are meant to be brilliant in giving extra support and backing it up in class

Niftyblue · 08/01/2010 19:34

Have a look at
www.allspecialkids.org

also
Oak hill school Nyon
www.oakhill.ch

And
www.ecolint.ch
There are two schools on that website
One on Grand Saconnex
the other La Chat in Founex

Wuxiapian · 08/01/2010 21:30

Thanks for replies.

Nifty, I thought it was only the Nations site of ththe International School that had the Extended Support Programme - which, it is thought, my son (11) would need to be on.

Checking out Oak as supplementary and LCIS could be promising.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you feel IIL weren't up to scratch?

Your responses are very much appreciated.

This whole schooling issue is a nightmare!

I.I.L how do I explain this without get sued
Ds is dyslexic and even though The special needs teacher was good (you have to pay thats extra)
It wasnt backed up in class and as from high school they wont accept you if you are "special needs" DS has been there since reception...........NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT IS going through this at I.I.L

They are put on a broom cupboard (honest)for extra support /lessons!!!
They have asked one of our friends to leave from year 6 as he will not be able to go up

Anyway L.C.I.S are brilliant as are La Chat
Look at Oakhill but that is only in the mornings

Sorry but very negative about I.I.L

Niftyblue · 08/01/2010 23:09

Sorry
But am negative about I.I.L.
I am just giving you my opinion based upon experience of different schools. There is a vast difference in attitude to special needs at LCIS/La Chat and others than at IIL.
The other schools like I posted are meant to be good

There is back up here for kid with special needs

I should be on commission for "know it all parents" book

Get it
Everything you need to know is in 'Know it all parents'. book
It helps with kids with special needs

Wuxiapian · 09/01/2010 13:10

Thanks again, Nifty.

I'm happy to hear of your experiences - good and bad!

How is your DS doing now?

OP posts:
Wuxiapian · 09/01/2010 13:17

Sorry, nifty, not that I want to hear bad news, but appreciate being informed.

OP posts:
Niftyblue · 09/01/2010 15:57

sorry for being negative about I.I.L but is not the school if your child has a SN

Ds is doing really well now

Has extra lessons within school time and its backed up in the classroom to

Wuxiapian · 09/01/2010 19:04

Glad your DS is getting on well, Nifty.

Which part of Switzerland/Geneva are you in?

My son, 11, is ASD, so I've taken on board your views about IIL and don't see as there's any point making contact with them.

On goes the search...

TheMysticMasseuse · 09/01/2010 20:36

Sorry for suggesting iil as i said i know nothing about them just heard the name.

Good luck

Wuxiapian · 09/01/2010 20:40

You were trying to help, TMM - nothing to apologise for!

You've just arrived in Geneva, TMM?

OP posts:
Niftyblue · 09/01/2010 22:11

TMM No need to apologise
I.I.L is good and it suited my dd but not my ds

We live in Versoix
La Chat is about 15 mins away
La Cote (L.C.I.S) is about 20/25 mins away
G.E.S is 10/15 mins

TheMysticMasseuse · 10/01/2010 17:33

yes i've just arrived. I am on the other side of the lake, though.

Wuxiapian · 11/01/2010 09:38

My partner's in Carouge, but God knows where we'll be in a few months time - all depends on schooling!

How are you settling in, TMM - are you alone/with family?

Wow, TMM.

I suppose no amount of preparing ever prepares you enough.

I'll be doing the same in the next few months and, tbh, I try not to think about it too much.

The furthest I've ever moved was a mile down the road from my parents! Sad, but true. Still, my DP is there and I know it's a better place for my son/us all to live and grow!

What are you doing with yourself - working or hanging back with the littley?
