I hope you don't mind me asking you, but have you every heard of this website:-

www.mamamikes.com/shop/Specials/index.cfm?CFID=106888922&CFTOKEN=92209607

We want to send some Nakumatt vouchers to PIL and stumbled across MamaMikes via the Nakumatt homepage.

Don't want to ask them as would spoil the surprise and don't want to do bank transfer as a bit impersonal.

Any ideas?

Thanks so much & happy new year!

I've not heard of it, it looks interesting. However with my ultra cynical head on, I probably wouldn't risk doing a deal with a CC with an online site here in Kenya....

I'll call the mobile number tomorrow and root around a bit more.

Otherwise, can I help at all? Feel free to CAT me.

PDR · 02/01/2010 18:35

Hehe!

I am also ultra ultra cynical! I wouldn't have touched it normally but then it was linked from the Nakumatt homepage and surely they wouldn't do this unless it was for real?

Only call if you have time... thanks though!

I can see how they make money on the service charge, which is quite a good idea if it's legit as I know a lot of ppl like to send friends/family money and this way you know what it's going to be spent on.

yes it's a great idea but I do wonder how secure it really is.

The big thing here at the moment is transferring money via MPESA, via your phone. it's amazing!

PDR · 03/01/2010 09:34

Just had another look and they seem to accept Paypal which may make it safer as I would not need to give out my card details...

Might give it a try for 1000 bob and see what happens....

I think I've heard of MPESA actually, I think this was in it's early stages before we left. Very clever!!!

Hope all is well over there?

Right I've sent 1000ksh nakumatt vouchers as a "test" and apparently it will be delivered on Wednesday so we'll see.

I paid with my Paypal account and it linked directly to the Paypal site and I had to log in with my usual details etc....

If it works it might be a good way of sending things to relatives without sending them cash!!!

Oh good idea, Paypal is pretty secure. I see no reason why it shouldn't work, but too many years of Africa behind me makes me look at these things in a rather sceptical way.

Let me know if it arrives.

The cakes look rather nice too. Then there is always goat for those special occasions.

Where are your PIL?

It is raining a lot at the moment. Otherwise things are quiet for the moment.

PDR · 03/01/2010 11:55

Nanyuki.

The goat looks brilliant! When you click on the Mbuzi it says you can "send a live or slaughtered goat today" - at them taking a live goat on the matatu to Nanyuki!

Although seriously, this would make PIL day!

Cakes do look lovely.

This is very advanced technology for Kenya. I am most impressed.

Will let you know!

It'd be tied to the top, wind blowing in it's horns .

PDR · 05/01/2010 18:24

It's not a scam! !!!

PIL picked up the voucher today.

DH has serious plans to send a live mbuzi for Easter.

He also wants to send various relatives a crate of beers including one who owns a bar.

I might regret stumbling upon this site!!!!
