Dear Members,

My name is Claire Hardy and I am a PhD student at the University of Nottingham in the UK. I am trying to contact UK employees and their spouses who have experience of being posted on an expatriate assignment (min. duration 1 year) and returning home but finding it difficult to locate these people and would appreciate any help that people could give. I am therefore posting this message to try and contact these individuals and ask if they would be willing to complete a 20 minute online anonymous survey for my research.

If you accompanied your partner on an expatriate assignment, please click on the following link:
www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=7zFfW7_2bHaWJty9k68InsJA_3d_3d
and complete a survey designed specifically for trailing spouses/partners.

If you know of anyone else who may be willing to help and complete a survey, please forward this message to them.

I am extremely grateful for your time.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected].

I'd be glad to do it, but don't know if I would be any use. My dh wasn't posted, he applied for and got jobs if that makes sense.

have you posted this link on forces sweethearts? there are a few of us who are/ have been 'elsewhere'...

i loathe surveys lol (am a qual girl at heart) but will have a look and see if i can bear it

snotexpectingsnow · 20/11/2009 04:40

I am currently one of these and have been for nearly 3 years now but no plans to come back yet as DH contract now on more local terms (so not sure if I qualify). I do know some others who may be able to help but I can't get your link to work.

Fivesetsofschoolfees · 20/11/2009 07:19

I would gladly do this survey but I can't get the link to work (having C&P the whole thing). It just defaults to the surveymonkey homepage.

Could you repost using the Mumsnet link syntax?

madwomanintheattic · 20/11/2009 21:40

please repost the link - not working!

madwomanintheattic · 20/11/2009 22:30

oh, ok. found it via another route. good lo' google.

completed, but it's a bit clunky and tres verbose in parts. (i think maybe too much cut and paste lol, though rofl a bit at partner being referred to as 'room mate' at one point amongst acres of text.)

claire - surveys in social research (de vaus) and any other survey design text (don dillman still oldie but goodie) will give you a few pointers about common mistakes - assume you are familiar, but maybe a bit of revision needed in order to get some useful results. some of the responses to the lengthier waffle will, i suspect, not be worth your analysis.

a leetle upset by the undercover racial stuff - not sure this was quite what was suggested by the 'info' blurb at the start. curious to know what you are doing though - (off for a scan around the notts site) as have similar spousal research interest myself, but from slightly diff angle...

madwomanintheattic · 20/11/2009 22:31

lo' google? lol. ol' google

frakkinaround · 21/11/2009 12:54

link

frakkinaround · 21/11/2009 12:55

Although, that just seems to get you to the default page?

madwomanintheattic · 22/11/2009 18:39

yep. she's posted it all over the place though. if you google her name and uni, you can find it. some of the links work from other sites. i think i used some expat noticeboard? i don't think she has linked her data from specific sites though, so shouldn't be a problem...

Hello all,

Thank you very much for looking at my post and offering help/suggestions.

I am in desperate need for former expatriated employees and their accompanying partners to complete surveys for my PhD.

If the link hasn't worked, try this one:

www.surveymonkey.com/s/H9C6JLG

If anyone has any questions or issues, please contact me at [email protected]. More than happy to discuss the research with you.

Thank you all so much for your help. I truely appreciate it.

Also, if you have completed a survey, please encourage your partner (if appropriate) to complete a survey too. The information that can be explored when both partners provide input is extremely interesting and potential very useful for organisations. I hope that my research will be able to fill gaps that currently exist with issues and factors raised.
