I'm escaping from KSA for 5 days in Dubai in a few weeks and have a few questions if you don't mind.

Are there any Clarks childrens shoe shops? DD has outgrown her shoes and really need to get some before we go back to the freezing UK at the end of December. DS is on the verge of walking so could do with some shoes too.
Am hoping at least one of the malls will have a Clarks?

Secondly, do the supermarkets do heinz savoury baby food? DS is very fussy and have almost run out of the supplies we brought back from the UK.

TIA

Hi am in Budapest but can tell you that there is a Clarks in one of the malls in Dubai. Possibly the Emirates Mall? The one with the skiing. It has Debenhams too!

MaMight · 15/11/2009 08:53

The big malls all have websites with a list of shops.

Mall of the Emirates
The Dubai Mall

They're the biggest and your best bet.

No idea about baby food. You'd probably find someone who knows if you ask on Expatwoman.com.

mumoverseas · 15/11/2009 09:16

Thanks Buda and MaMight
Buda, that will be the Emirates Mall which is fab as I love it there, just couldn't remember if a Clarks
We have Debenhams in every mall in Saudi, same stuff as in the UK but double the price

OP posts:

I got very excited about Debenhams!

mumoverseas · 15/11/2009 09:44

probably about as excited as I'll be about Clarks.
Thing that annoys me about the Debenhams in KSA is that the staff (all male obviously) are so damm lazy. Half the time the tills aren't open and they send you to the far side of the store and the staff there then send you back!
Bearing in mind the shopping window in the morning is from 9.30am (ish) - usually nearer 9.45 and until around 11.30am when they start shutting for prayer, it doesn't give you long.

What is the shopping like in Budapest? Very limited?

Shopping here is not too bad really. Most high street stores - Mango/Zara/H&M etc. I struggle as am larger than most!

Am heading off to NY on Thursday though where that is not a problem!

Starmummy · 16/11/2009 03:21

Hi mumoverseas

Not sure about either of your questions tbh. However there is a pablobsky shoe shop in MoE (Mall of the Emirates) which does better quality and fitting childrens shoes, upstairs ski Dubai end.

I did have a search for clarks on Expatwoman and got the following. It appears the best Clarks is in Dubai Mall, also I know Magrudys have stopped doing shoes.
www.expatwoman.com/forum/search.aspx

As for baby food, no idea I'm afraid DS has long moved on from that (14!)

Have a great time.

mumoverseas · 16/11/2009 05:08

Hi Starmummy, thanks for that. A few people have mentioned expatwoman and I must get around to looking at that.

I think we were planning on going to Dubai Mall to see the fountains? so will look there. Plan B will be the other shoe shop you mention. Problem we have is DD (3 years) has very fat little feet so we can't get away with shoes from places like Mothercare or Next.

Can't wait to escape. I can almost smell the bacon

you should find british babyfood brands in lulu's or carrefour and spinney's. easy enough from my experience in abu dhabi.

MABS · 21/11/2009 14:26

shoes and baby food are defo easy in dubai MOS, i been to Clarkes. Where you staying? seen my thread in this topic? x

mumoverseas · 22/11/2009 13:23

Thanks for that everyone
MABS, hi, how are you and how was your Florida trip?
We are staying at the Jumeirah Beach hotel, thought I'd push the boat out a bit as its DH's birthday whilst we are there.

Not seen your thread? Will have a look now x

there are lots of clarks shoe shops around.

Different supermarkets have different brands of baby food; on an apparently entirely random basis; only snag is that because of the halal thing, you can't usually get any which contain meat.

JJsandcat · 01/12/2009 18:04

They do the baby food you're looking for. Try Choithram on 2nd intersection or Waitrose in Dubai Mall. You can get organic Plum here, too. Great stuff. And SMA ready made little tetra paks

mumoverseas · 02/12/2009 06:33

You have a WAITROSE
Am just packing now as flying this afternoon and have packed a case inside a case for all my shopping.
I hope its a bit warmer there, its freezing here. The last few days skynews has said around 18 degrees here and 27 to 29 there. Hope that is right

Just back from Dubai and had a lovely time ladies. Weather was just perfect and even more perfect was the fantastic kids club in the JB hotel that took both DD aged 3 and DS aged 10 months
Mangaged to get DD her new boots which she loves and DS his first ever shoes.
Thanks for the recommendations, the fountains were brilliant too.
Am very jealous of you all living there permanently
