Urgent - Parents in Germany, children's party invitation dilemma

DS1 has been invited to his first party tomorrow. The birthday boy had his actual birthday two weeks ago, and DS1 gave him a present and card back then.

I really don't want DS1 to stick out tomorrow by not adhering to party protocol. Should I dash out and get another little something for his mate?

hmmwell not in germany, but this has happened before in london for us, we don't bring a second present!

oh it's difficult, isn't it? DS1 sticks out like a sore thumb already and I just want him to fit in, but his mate is spoiled rotten and has hundreds of toys.

Don't get him something else. The other guests won't even notice when you pile in through the door with coats etc. If you get 2 presents then they'll feel obliged to get you 2 presents another time and it all spirals until the worlds is covered in wrapping paper.

It's a 'birthday' present, not a 'party' present. You have bought a gift for the occasion so no need to buy another.

thanks all. I ended up playing with the DC instead of dragging them round the shops at the last minute. Everything shuts here on Sunday too so I've missed the last chance.
