New Thread.

We finally have "enough" H1N1 shots available that the kids could get some. They had a free clinic at Colin's school, and the Dr. called to have Caitlin get one, but I officially missed out on those. Oddly, I feel much better now that I've made the decision not to.

I love those cookies, nooka. They really seem to embody the flavors we like to eat around here.

jabberwocky · 16/12/2009 03:06

I'm the same dooney. Did you read today that they recalled some? Supposedly insufficient potentcy

nooka · 16/12/2009 04:08

I had both the seasonal and H1N1 at work last week. I didn't really intend to, but the nurses were there and there wasn't a queue, so I thought why not. I didn't think that a few minues later as I had to go and have a sit down (I react terribly to jabs and blood taking, very embarrassing). I was fairly sure that we had already had H1N1, and the nurses told me that if I had already had it that was no problem (always good to challenge your immune system to rise to the occasion) but that I wouldn't have any reaction. Which I didn't, so now I know that all the family are protected, which is nice. I did feel a bit as if I'd been punched for a day or two though.

jabberwocky · 16/12/2009 17:12

Glad you did well nooka. I got horribly ill after my first ever seasonal flu shot so methinks that is my last experience with those.

nooka · 17/12/2009 04:13

Well I've been told with the flu shot that you are likely to get the worst reaction the first time (this was from the public health nurses). Friends at work confirmed this to me later too. I've never had a flu shot before, because I'm not in any at risk group. My work for some reason offers it to every employee.

kickassangel · 17/12/2009 14:01

hi,
flying off to colorado tomorrow morning. Not sure yet if we're taking a laptop (though I'm sure there will be computers there, our friend works for Hewlit Packard), but this may be the last time I'm on here before Christmas. We have a lot planned, so a bit excited. also a bit nervous as this is a reunion with dh's long lost step sister & family. Anyway, I am sure it will be hugely festive. If I don't see you lot again, then

HAPPY CHRISTMAS

dooney - thanks again for those cookie recipes. They look yummy.

The ginger-y ones sound unusual and intriguing. May have to shop for the uncommon ingredients and give them a go. One request though - you linked to the butter cookies twice. Would love to have whatever that other recipe was, when you get a chance.

And on the butter cookies - can I just use Vanilla instead of Fiori Di Sicilia?

If anyone wants it, I'll be glad to post the potato chip cookie recipe.

We haven't had flu shots yet, and am keeping fingers crossed that we'll stay germ-resistant.

dooneygirl · 18/12/2009 01:43

Whoops. That's what I get for trying to do this and entertain the kids at the same time.

I don't own Fiori Di Sicilia. I use almond extract instead. You could use vanilla no problem, I just like the flavor from the almond extract better.

Here's the link I missed.

Have fun in Colorado, kickass.

dooneygirl · 18/12/2009 01:44

Pressed post too early. My two vices are dessert and potato chips, so as horrifying as the combination sounds, they must taste wonderful, so I'd be more than happy for a link to be posted.

jabberwocky · 20/12/2009 19:55

Dh would love those cookies!

dooneygirl · 22/12/2009 01:20

Posting because it fell off my threads I'm on. It looks quiet here, but Merry Christmas to all.

AnnieLaurie · 22/12/2009 03:09

Hi everyone...Merry Christmas from Seattle.

We just celebrated our year anniversary in this house! (Just over a year in the States!!)

Sorry I have not been around on this thread much, but really hope one and all have a peaceful, wonderful, special time over the festive period.

"Happy Haaah-lid-ahyeeezzzz!!!"

AL xx

jabberwocky · 22/12/2009 03:34

Happy Holidays to all of you!

dooney, you must let us in on your news when you can

SuperBunny · 23/12/2009 18:41

Yes, Dooney.

Hope you are all ok

dooneygirl · 23/12/2009 18:59

I'm not saying anything because I don't want to jinx it. It will take time, though. I promise nothing bad.

We're getting all hyper here for Christmas. Caitlin's going on and on about how there are only 2 more days left. In-laws should be here in a few hours. Much better than last Christmas when we were all snowed in and it took them I forgot how many hours to go the last 20 miles.

SuperBunny · 23/12/2009 23:38

Am glad you are ok, Dooney.

Califrau has asked about this thread and how you all are. She says she thinks of us often.

Merry Christmas all of you.

jabberwocky · 25/12/2009 02:14

Merry Christmas to you Bunny and Cali too! She could stop in just for out thread couldn't she???

SuperBunny · 27/12/2009 20:43

No, she's left for good now

Hope you are all ok.

Earlybird · 27/12/2009 20:49

Hello all.

Hope you had lovely Christmases.

Ended up having 12 for lunch on Christmas Day (asked to host 2 days prior), but it went well. I made a Taco soup/stew, cornbread muffins and salad. We had chocolate cake and peppermint ice cream for dessert. (We had the traditional beef tenderloin/ham/squash/mashed potatoes/eggnog etc on Christmas Eve).

DD and I are driving 6 hours tomorrow to meet a dog breeder. No chance we'll come home with a puppy, as they're all spoken for, but will give us more information as we consider 'adding' to our family.

jabberwocky · 27/12/2009 23:05

wow, earlybird, good job on the lunch!

I'm thinking of getting a dog in the summer, mainly for ds1. I've narrowed it down to Havanese, Bichon Frise and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel types. (any mixes of these sound good)

too bad about Cali. I suppose it is hard to just pop on for one thread.

LordPanofthePeaks · 27/12/2009 23:25

jabberwocky, season's greetings!
dd has gotten a labradoddle for Christmas! She is utterly perfect, loveable, placid, intelligent(ish), and infinitely trainable, so far.

jabberwocky · 28/12/2009 00:42

Pan! I'm so glad to hear from you

I have heard labradoodles were very nice. Is it too big for a house dog though? We don't have a fence atm.

LordPanofthePeaks · 28/12/2009 00:57

no, she is fine - about av. size, though they can vary depending on how strong a mix of lab or poodle there is. You can see instantly why they are well thought of for children.
A fence missing is a prob. with any dog, n'est-ce pas? Did someone steal it?

jabberwocky · 28/12/2009 03:13

Yes, I had been thinking of a standard poodle as an option at one point.

lol at our missing fence New house, recession, yada yada yada I think we'll get there next year.

kickassangel · 29/12/2009 00:49

hi guys, just popped in to say 'happy christmas' to everyone.

we went to colorado to see dh's long lost step sister & family. there were 8 people & 6 animals there so very hectic & lots of fun. dd was so excited, it was hilarious. managed to fit in a couple of days ski-ing as well. dd now desperate for a dog, after terrorising the ones at the sil's.

i was beginning to soften towards the yorkshire terrier, after hearing that they are non-allergenic, then discovered that they're v hard to house train, which put me right off!

the only down side was an infected finger, thankfully managed to get to a doc's for anti-biotics but tis still red & sore. strangely, not being able to use it seems to have improved my typing?

hope you all had a good time, any wild plans for new years?
