Advice on moving to Germany from UK - Schwabisch Gmund

Hi, have just joined netmums and looking for some advice on moving to Germany. DH has been offered a job in Schwabisch Gmund near Stuttgart. We have a DD (3) and DS (1). DH is german. If anyone is in that area and could give me some tips on toddler groups, kindergartens and good areas to live in with children that would be great. Some general advice on moving to germany from Uk with two small children would be appreciated too.
Thank you

Hi there,

I don't know Schwäbisch Gmund very well, but have a friend from there. Cannot give you any tips on that area, but if there is anything else you would like to ask about living in Germany, fire away, I will try to help.

Do you have a house yet? Once you have that sorted, then find out about kindergartens in the area. You are guaranteed a space for your 3yo.

Are your DC bilingual?

Hi, thank you for your message. No we don't have a house yet as we would not be moving until October. We are planning a trip out there at the end of the month without children to have a look. DC not bilingual but DD is a bit like a sponge with german - although DH has not been too hot on speaking only german to her! My german is ok could get by but will try to mug up before we go. Exciting prospect for us and a relief as DH is being made redundant.
Thanks for replying - mumsnet is a great resource especially for moving abroad. Will keep you posted on our progress.

Get your DH speaking German to the DC as much as possible until you move. The more they hear now, the easier it will be when they move.

You could also pop into the German thread if you have any questions.

It is a nice area down there (but a terrible accent, your poor DC).

Hope your DH is not from Schwabenland after me making fun of his accent.

No worries he is from Magdeburg in the east!!
Thanks again for your help
