Hi everyone, been so busy but I will be back moer soon. At the moment I'm using a computer with a mind of it's own belonging to my dad, he has been self-teaching himself to use it and has messed it up with hundreds of programmes and photofixit stuff!

School for the dc here is a dream, they still can't get over how great it is and keep expecting to be shouted at or told off but it isn't going to happen!

MmeLindt · 09/06/2009 06:22

Hey, Admylin. Glad that our nagging gentle reminders helped to get you back here.

School sounds great, how fab for your DC. You know that you are not encouraging me to hope for the next posting in Germany when we leave here.

I know what you mean about the computer, my Mum was terrible for that when she got her first computer. When something came up "download now" she clicked on it. Nightmare. My Dad went to a class at the local college, "Computers for the Terrified".

We have a busy day ahead of us and an exciting one for Daphne. Toilettage. The doggy hairdresser. I do like it that they have their own word for it, it is such an important part of doggy life here. The dogs are all quiffed and coiffed, many wear little jackets and matching accesories.

Just heard the ping of the microwave in the cellar. I think that DD is making herself porrige. Selbst ist die Frau, even when she is only 7yo. Should I start an AIBU thread to see if it is ok to let her make her own porrige?

canella · 09/06/2009 08:19

morning all - so much goes on on this thread when i'm busy!! all this name changing - it just confuses me so i'm being dull and sticking with canella!!!

Welcome Schulte - have we scared you away?

Admylin - good to hear from you - glad everyone is settling in!

mmelindt - not sure my dd(also 7) would manage porridge but thats more cause she's lazy and thinks she's a princess who should be waited on hand and foot!!! as long as it doesnt get too hot i'm sure you're dd will be fine! giggled at the highlight of your day (and daphne's) being a trip for tiolettage!!! hope she behaves herself and comes out looking gorg!!! that family of your dh are forever causing you probs - be strict and it'll stop it happening again!!

HHVT (zzen) - too long to write your full new name out! are you telling us the name change means you'll be more efficient with housework? maybe i should try it after all!!!

Frosch - glad to hear dh missed the F1 to be with you and your catheter new dd!! glad ds is loving her too but at 5 they are big enough to understand they're still loved!!

Ernest - i'm loving you meeting people from glasgow - thats where i'm from - it is full of people as friendly as your new friend!! still jealous of your indian food - i'm making do with the indian snacks from lidl - went back yesterday and they still had some - yum yum!! not helping the weight loss though!

Still excited about the house - its a couple who looked at the house yesterday and instantly put in a full asking price offer!!!! they're cash buyers too so fingers crossed it shouldnt be too painful (famous last words eh!!!) just need to sort out a solicitor - the estate agent gave us their one and although its a teeny bit more expensive i'm tempted to use them because i cant be arsed looking for another one!

its just too exciting at the thought of all the profit - we'd been in the house since 2002 before prices shot up so we've not got much of a mortgage - but we've now bought this house in germany so will be chuffed to put some of the profit towards that!! oh and pay of our tax bill for the house here and a trip to eurodisney! i've got it spent already!!!!!

so off shopping this morning - we've got a handyman from the village in doing some big noisy work upstairs this morn so i'm going to escape!! plus its saves me having to make conversation - he's got the thickest franken accent - no idea what he's saying half the time!!

canella · 09/06/2009 08:20

sorry that was a huge post - must not leave it so long next time!!

Schulte · 09/06/2009 09:10

Morning No I had to watch the Apprentice on iPlayer last night so couldn't hang around. I am a German living in the UK - I gather most people here are in Germany?

HHHagenVonTronje · 09/06/2009 10:03

housework?! Nah. Mir dürstet es nach männlichem Kampf etc canella.

No name change gets me excited about housework. Would take a missile under my seat or something like that.

We are a mixed bag Schulte. Have you been in the UK long?

Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee admylin is back on the thread! Good to see you here.

Frosch · 09/06/2009 10:11

Morning all, welcome Schulte...

I can't believe it's nearly 11. It's taken me this long to bathe her, shower me, feed her, express (or "pump" as they delightfully call it over here) and eat something. I'd forgotten it took so long. Won't be doing this again!

Yep, my parents want to move to Germany and have bought a new-build 50m up the road but the housing market in the UK is being so stubborn and they can't leave the house until it's sold. Am in two minds about having ma and pa so close but they want to get to know their grandchildren, so that's fine with me.

Are you sure it's porrige in the microwave, MmeLindt?! And no, YANBU! We should encourage breakfasting independence!

We sent the hund to the hund frisseur on Saturday; he looks 10 years younger but it takes and hour and a half to hack through the undergrowth to find him and AGES to dry him off.

I bought my mum a "internet surfing for seniors" type book, which seemed to work cos she can skype and open emails now. She does worry that my laptop is radiating my uterus, though....

admylin · 09/06/2009 10:13

Morning, I'm sitting trying to find example character reference letters as I need 2 atleast, for things like applying for houses and jobs. When you haven't worked for a long time that's the only way to get references. I have the 'respectable members of the community' to sign them but they are so busy that they said just write them and we'll sign them.

MmeLindt · 09/06/2009 10:23

Morning all!

Frosch
LOL at your mum thinking you are radiating your uterus.

She managed the porrige this morning, but put too much oats and too little milk so it was rather stodgy. I heated up some milk for her to thin it a bit.

We were at a market on Sunday in France and bought the most delicious honeys. I am not a great honey fan, never eat it, but even I was swayed by the lavender honey. DD picked a rhodendron honey and DH the forest honey. We have enough honey to keep Winnie the Poo happy for weeks. Wish I was not fasting and could eat some.

Still, mustn't grumble. I have lost another 3.5kg so far, adding to the 3.5kg I lost last time that is about a stone since Xmas.

Should fit into the bloody bridesmaids dress anyway.

I even bought a bikini for the first time in about 15 years. Just for the garden at the moment, might get confident enough to flash my flabby belly at the beach when I am a bit brown. It does not seem to be so bad when the wobbly bits are not glaring white.

HHHagenVonTronje · 09/06/2009 10:32

famous last words Frosch! I met a man at the playground once with his 8 dc and I thought : good grief that's a big family, till his wife turned up with the other 4 and they told me they were hoping for a 13th

Made me feel quite inadequate. How did they manage? Felt like saying something about dh being out swimming with the other 7 or something...

didn't know people in Europe still had 13 kids these days.

Well done on the weight loss ML, I was going to ask you about that yesterday. When is the wedding?

Frosch · 09/06/2009 10:42

OMG MmeLindt; are you really going to be a bridesmaid?!?!?

And 13 kids? It's bad enough thinking of 2 names, let alone 13. The mind boggles. I am fending off cringey questions from Mother about what kind of contraception I'll be using from now on. If she keeps on, it'll be contraception enough....

Gracelo · 09/06/2009 11:50

Sorry, Mme Lindt, don't want to worry you but isn't rhododendron honey toxic? Weren't Roman soldiers poisoned by Rhododendron honey?

Gracelo · 09/06/2009 11:52

Googled. mad honey disease

AliceThroughThelookingGlass · 09/06/2009 12:01

helo all

hope everyone is well,
ds is nearly back ....to normal..strange phrase that

twas yet another ear infection ...

have to decide today on the new house

have big problems putting down roots

admylin · 09/06/2009 12:05

Alice, I've just returned to my roots, small town mentality is a big thing here.

Everyone is speculating - why is she back, has she left him, did he throw her out - that sort of thing. Loads of people know me and I haven't a clue who they are. Still it is home somehow. There is no place like home, alot of locals moved away when I did but they have all drifted back eventually.

Where are you from in UK?

AliceThroughThelookingGlass · 09/06/2009 12:14

I also lived back with my parents when dd was little,in Hampshire

ended up being there for five years
and going through a divorce

all thrown at me

dd really had a strange childhood.

strange stayed with my parents for only a few days with ds

and it was sooooooooooo hard,
my mum was lovely

but my dad was worse than Victor Meldrey...

wishing you all the best
and for your dc

till later

MmeLindt · 09/06/2009 14:38

Alice
Good to hear from you, hope your DS gets better soon.

Yes, I am at the ripe old age of 36 years going to be a bridesmaid again. I have even been informed that I am to wear a tshirt to the Boyzone concert that I am going to on Friday (Henny Night) with "Bridesmaid" printed on it. Not at all my cup of tea but I will join in the fun and games. I really love my SIL to be and it is her day not mine.

I do hope I don't have to wear a stetson or a feather boa.

It is likely to be a good laugh, there are 13 of us going, some of them old friends. And it is in Glasgow, where noone knows me

CynicalCinders · 09/06/2009 19:05

thank you he is much better

just hoping he will stay healthy for a while

Schulte · 10/06/2009 20:32

Frosch, how old is your new dd? I have a 7 week old here... and a toddler... it's hard work.

My Oma had 8 children and apparently they all look after each other. Also birthing was a doddle from number 3 onwards. Or so she said.

Those honeys sound yummy! I love markets, shame there are so few of them here.

canella · 10/06/2009 21:17

evening all - hope you've all got nice plans for the holiday day tom - think its the last one for a while?

its sommerfest at the kiga tom - think the other parents ae taking it all a bit seriously!! we've been rota'd to work a 3 hour shift selling food!! and the same shift - not sure whats going to happen to our dc at that time!! ds is far too wild to be let run about in a kiga where the gates are open!! also going to the catholic church for the first time tom - so unreligious in our house - i'd have no idea whats going on in the UK never mind in German!!

so just baking the obligatory cake (bit late but i've not stopped all day!!!) and trying to politely vent my pissed-off-ness at some weird posters in other threads!! some folk are just strange!!

Frosch · 11/06/2009 09:26

MmeLindt - you must REALLY love your SIL to do that! Wild horses wouldn't get me in a bridesmaid dress. Do you get to choose what you wear?

Hello Schulte; my DD is three weeks and three days but my DS is "fast fünf", which makes things easier (I think). What part of the UK are you in and which part of Germany are you from?

Schulte · 11/06/2009 10:17

Am in Surrey, originally from Black Forest. 3 weeks... that's when things with this little madam here started getting more difficult... how are you coping?

Frosch · 11/06/2009 10:51

Schulte - coping OK but only because mum is picking up the slack, it'll just be me and my man from this afternoon onwards and we are not very good "morning" people.

DS is being very good, cries when she's wet or hungry but sleeps or chats to herself the rest of the time.

I have to say that the German delivery was a heck of a lot better than the British one!

Are you in Surrey for good or will you be coming back to Germany at some point?

Schulte · 11/06/2009 11:48

Oh for a German delivery! Was really p'd off with the British system this time, had an emergency CS because DD2 was undiagnosed breech. In Germany this would have been picked up at an ultrasound in late pregnancy! Also they then made me labour until 7 cms dilated because they had other CS to deal with first. With no pain relief

No plans to move back to D, not at the moment anyway. Whereabouts are you?

Gracelo · 11/06/2009 12:18

I had my second baby in a rural hospital with no surgery team, no pain relief other than gas and only midwifes (who were great). The closest team of surgeons in case of any emergency is 2 hours drive through the Highlands or a helicopter ride away. When I tell that to Germans they look at my like I've gone mad or I'm making it up. Same when I tell them that I met pretty much every midwife in Dundee when pregnant with dd and every midwife of Western Argyll when pregnant with ds and didn't have one dedicated midwife to see me through. I enjoyed meeting them, they were without exception lovely and competent.
I did end up in an emergency ambulance on a freezing cold winter morning with ice on the roads because my bleeding wouldn't stop. Overall I liked it that there wasn't a scan every 5 min and I so couldn't have been arsed bothered with Schwangerschaftsgymnastik.
