well we will see. Have googled some more and it doesn't sound good. Vet opens at 5pm so going there to see what they say. Poor little thing isn't moving much. She can still run but she lifts up her hind leg when she does it and just rests the foot on the floor running on her two fronts and the other hind leg. Don't want dd to be there in case they say she needs to be put down

Oh bugger

Your DD sounds well grounded, given that she can squash your DH when he gets all Oberlehrer, so she'll handle a three-legged guinea pig just fine. It's worse when you come home from school and your pet has just vapourised. At least she'll know what's happened and been part of the process.

MmeLindt · 23/04/2009 11:48

Frosch
My cousin is involved (in a very roundabout way) with the Braun F1 team. He sent us some photos from Australia, we were very jealous. It does look very exotic and glamorous but I do suspect that it very stressful and quite a hard slog.

DS was a couple of days early, much better than DD who was 2 weeks late. I was about demented by the time that she arrived.

I have one of DS's little friends here for lunch. My DD is at their house with their DD. They just moved here from Scotland and their DC are ages with ours.

Just asked in the village if anyone knew about hiring benches and tables for DH's party and was told that the commune brings them around to the house, I just ahve to tell them when and where. She thought that they did it free off charge.

Frosch · 23/04/2009 11:56

Hmm. Exotic and glamorous. Well, at Brazilian GP, the local girls walk down the pit lane with skinny hipster jeans, no zip, just lace up fly with everything waxed off underneath. Needless to say, all the F1 guys love Brazil. Australia is a bit more 'normal'.

DS was two and half weeks late and then had to be induced; that is why DH is being so complacent, I think!!

Are children's parties as big a deal here as in the UK or are they what you make them?

MmeLindt · 23/04/2009 12:19

I think that the German idea of inviting as many children as years that the birthday child has is a good one. DD is 7 next week so she should invite 7 kids. They did seem to have much bigger parties here in CH.

Zzzen
Crossing my fingers for the guinea pig. You could do a Mcgyver and make a wee splint out of some cocktail sticks or something.

ZZZen · 23/04/2009 12:33

jeans with a laced up fly - somehow I think: ouch! I am too straight-laced (weak pun) to ever do that.

I thought dh would come back from Brasil wroked up to a lather with all the beautiful girls everyone, scantily dressed but he actually didn't like it much, mind you he was in Brasilia not Rio and he said everyone wears business clothes. He might have got more excited about Rio de Janeiro.

He loved Chile though. He has an absolute thing about Chile since he got back from that trip. It's a country it would have frankly never crossed my mind to visit tbh. He even says it would be a fabulous place to live and he thinks dd would love it. No idea why really, can't really envisage the place myself although I lived in Venezuela for a while and travelled about South America.Never got to CHile though

I don't think I could cope with a UK-style dc's birthday where the whole class gets invited unless it's a village school with 6 dc in the class!

I did what ML said just around the same number of dc as the birthday dc's age, so 6th birthday 6-8 kids etc Was enough for me. German birthday parties involve party bags, cakes and games as well. Big thing seems to be the treasure hunt.

Finally found you, but not got time to chat.

Good luck with vet Zzzen Hate that stuff, bad enough cat getting tick. poor little piggie.

goot luck w. c section frosch. I had one last June - cannot believe my baby is nearly a year old! Section was planned for 38 weeks, but baby came early. caused quite a bit of inconvenienece I should say.

Mum is coming on Saturday, have my chool meeting tomorrow, so basically need to get house more or less sorted today and too tired and lazy to do anything. Help.

ErnestTheBavarian · 23/04/2009 12:57

re birthday parties, we only ever had about 7 guests, also in CH - never went to one with loads more than that. Once my kids hit 7/8 I couldn't be rsed any more and said they can choose 2 or 3 best friends and got to Legoland or cinema or whatever as a treat. No more parties, shudder. except now have to do thenm for ds3, and when I can stop his, will have to do them for dd will the torture never end?

ZZZen · 23/04/2009 12:59

it will never end! Once dd is through with them, the eldest ones will be having teenage things will be truly scarey :0

I'm living in the hope that once at a certain age they will be happy to go off for the day with friends or have one to sleep over or something like that! I'm lucky because both my 2 always say they aren't fussed about a party, last couple of birthdays I took them to the cinema in Berlin.

How long is your mum staying Ernest? Mine keeps offering to come over again to help me pack but she's not that fit anymore and I'd feel guilty if she came and I exhausted her. I think I'll manage it - would be good if my sister could come but I doubt she'll fit me in as she works part time.

ErnestTheBavarian · 23/04/2009 13:15

she comes saturday morning and goes monday night. dd is getting baptised on sunday. Can't believe she's coming tbh, and rather wish she wasn't - I find her & her dh very hard work, and certainly won't have to worry about her tiring herself out . Her idea of being a loving mother and grandmother is bunging a couple of quid in a bank account for them and sticking a few photos up. I think she likes the idea of grandchildren, but doesn't actually like the reality. No playing, interaction, Talking to them, Just hold the baby and drink a couple of beers and moan at them when they get bored or too intrusive. Give me strenght to stick a patient smile on this weekend please. Oh and kich me up the bum and make me do some tidying.

Dh had a 'wardrobe malfunction' this morning which meant I had to do an emergency dash into town with a spare suit lol. The highlight of my day. That's how exciting my life has become

Frosch · 23/04/2009 13:20

DS is 5 this year, so I think I could manage five little monsters plus new sproglette. That seems a sensible formula, thanks everyone.

Ernest is another with an early bird. Damn! Only stories of 42+ weeks from now on, please!

Handy tip; DS has picked up ringworm (from where?! where does it come from?!). Anti-bacterial creams have proved useless but tea-tree oil has shifted it after a week of dabbing. Wonder if it works on dogs and ticks; I hate having to pull off their bloated, squiggy, grey bodies and squeezing them until they burst but how else do you kill 'em?

Admylin - your mum wouldn't offer if she didn't feel up to it, would she? So say yes. Even if she's not that fit, it's good to have a person to sit there while you pack and shout "chuck it away!" or "keep it!" and it's a mental comfort too. My mum cleared the whole keller while she was here. Mums give fresh perspective on all the crap we hoarde....

ErnestTheBavarian · 23/04/2009 13:29

"I hate having to pull off their bloated, squiggy, grey bodies and squeezing them until they burst but how else do you kill 'em?" - do you mean ticks? I pluck it out with tweezers right from base, ensure all is out then drop it in alohol to kill. I flushed last one down loo but they can apparently survive that. ds wanted me to just chuck it in garden, but I don't want it hanging around getting it's claws into kids next time, or back into cat. have now put anti tick stuff on her, so hopefully no more

Frosch · 23/04/2009 13:35

Ernest - aren't they gross? Like you, I don't want them hanging around and climbing back on the dog or DS, which is why I squish 'em. I've got one of those funky plastic tick removers, so the head comes out with it but then I WANT IT DEAD! Had to lend it to a neighbour who had one in her groin - yuk. I'm enjoying the image of a bloated little tick riding the crest of the toilet flush, screaming 'way-hey!' and surviving. DS doesn't like me kiling them but then he wants me take all the little ladybird corpses he finds to the vet...

MmeLindt · 23/04/2009 13:46

Frosch
DD was 42 weeks and I had to be induced. I have never actually gone into labour naturally, I have wondered if I am able to.

URgh, ticks. I had to remove one from our dog recently. Yuk yuk yuk. Shame we don't have our fire on anymore, we could incinerate them. Burn, baby, burn [mad cackle]

Oops, sorry. Got carried away there.

Alcohol, Ernest? Not real proper Mummy and Daddy Drinking Alcohol I hope? Can't waste that on ticks.

ErnestTheBavarian · 23/04/2009 13:50

nah putzalkohol

have you got that anti tick stuff from vet? just trying it, hope it works, as that's the 3rd my cat's had, and always me who has to remove it yuck

MmeLindt · 23/04/2009 13:57

The vet gave us stuff that gets smeared onto the back of her neck where she cannot lick it off. I think it works for several weeks or months. Must ask about it, forgot to do so last week.

Frosch · 23/04/2009 14:00

Ernest - we use advantix but DH reckons frontline is better but we still end up plucking 6-10 out per season...

MmeLindt - me too. Was two and half weeks over, not a single contraction, had that oxytocin stuff, that didn't work and after five days (five days!!!) of induction, only dilated 3 cms. Obviously unable to do birth naturally, ergo I am seven-of-nine type Borg and need c-section. What about your other child? Was he/she induced?

canella · 23/04/2009 14:19

mme lindt - i've never gone into labour naturally either!! wonder if we're missing some hormone or something!! induced everytime - dd 40wks+12, ds1 40wks+10 and ds2 40wks+5 days!! had hysterical crying do in cons office with ds2 - said they were going to induce me in the end so they could just do it a bit sooner!!

Frosch · 23/04/2009 14:24

canella - that is really weird and I've only heard similar from you and MmeLindt. All the baby sites and mags are full of handy hints and tips but not one has ever addressed this issue; I wonder if it is a hormone thing?

MmeLindt · 23/04/2009 14:25

DS was 39 weeks, waters broke and I was induced 24 hours later. Had crash CS because fo the incompetent mw.

MmeLindt · 23/04/2009 14:34

Oh, I tried EVERYTHING to bring on labour.

Acupuncture - fell off the chair as I have a bit of a needle phobia. I can vaguely remember the mw shouting for help as I slumped toward the floor in a dead faint

Melon

Zimt (had that with every meal and in between meals) DH said I was like Forrest Gump and the shrimps. Melon with Zimt, yogurt with Zimt, Apples with Zimt, Cake with Zimt...

Stairs - lived on 4th floor as do PILs

Sex - that was a challenge, considering I was as big as a house.

Nippletwiddling - with and without the aforementioned

Nothing worked except a great big induction. I think I would still be pregnant if they hadn't induced.

DD showed definate signs of being past her sell-by date. The waters burst during Presswehen and they were a lovely shade of green. Luckily DD was almost out by then otherwise I might have had a CS there too.

ZZZen · 23/04/2009 14:35

I got those birkenstocks with the massage sole just before I gave birth. Dh is convinced that is what brought it on.

This tick business is sounding extremely ekelhaft. It's putting me off going tothe vet, thinking they'll be dogs there covered in ticks wanting to move home

Please tell me it was the neighbour's DOG that had a tick in its groin

OP posts:
MmeLindt · 23/04/2009 14:38

I was thinking that I would not have wanted the tick squeezers back from the neighbours.
