I've gone cross eyed trying to find reasonable priced car hire for 18 days on the Gold/Sunshine Coast. Any suggestions for hire firms, decent cars, no hidden excesses etc...much appreciated. Looking for 3 adults and 2 children with probably 4+ bags so after converting into NZ dollars looking quite like the cost of the rest of the holiday put together at the moment . Any suggestion much appreciated.

Hi Sibble I don't think this is much help but I've been looking today for 8 days car hire (pick up Gold Coast Airport drop off Brisbane Airport) and I have found that it is cheaper to use a UK company like hirecars.co.uk Otherwise have you tried Tiki Car Hire they have excess reduction to $550 AUD or Lastminute.com? Wading through all the insurance and excess conditions drives me bananas! Have you tried using the search facility on the Gold Coast forum of Tripadvisor? Just type 'car hire' into the search box or you could post the same question that you have asked here. Good luck.

Ok I'm booked, that copycat I used economy through one of your sites, no excess and marginally cheaper than 'fetch' that I'd found.

Great Sibble you are a step ahead of me then as I still haven't sorted my car hire yet. Grrr it's so time consuming ... the 'no excess' insurance is a 'must have' IMO so well done.

we ahve allways used budget... they were pretty reasonable on the internet.. normally and outlander or similar!

hi copycat - not sure when you are going but it hasn't been as simple as I thought. Basically you submit your request for your car of choice (with all internet bookings)j24 hours later they come back to say they don't have your car of choice and you submit again. I have now been doing this all week. Finding the phone number from the websites to call and they won't help over the phone anyway requests a subscription to mensa. So in short I would book now. It is looking that we will have to go with Avis or one of the dearer ones and pay 2-3X the price for exactly the same car and conditions. I had no idea there would be such a shortage of hire cars!

We always use www.abel.com.au. The cars are nearly new and they have a minibus link to airport 5 mins ride away.
