We're planning a 4 month trip to NewZealand and would like to spend 3 months in Nelson and the rest travelling.
I would like dd who will be 9 and ds who will be 7 to go to school if it's possible while we're there.
Would anyone know if this is possible when it's for such a short amount of time and also where would be the best place to look for nice schools?

The vast majority of schools are 'nice'. They really are - unless you're in a dodgy area and I can't imagine Nelson would fall into that category. I have no idea if you can go for a short time, especially if you're not residents. Maybe look up ministry of education website.

The NZ version of OFSTED is ERO. They publish reports for all schools and carry out reviews about 3 yearly.
www.ero.govt.nz then search under Schools (primary) in Nelson. This should give a pretty good feel for the size of school (less than 300 is ideal) and whether its OK quality-wise. It also provides the decile rating which can be used as another indicator (10 is highest income, 1 lowest). You might want to look at some of the towns around Nelson as well to see if there are some nice little country schools - Brightwater and Richmond I think are the closest towns but actually more like suburbs.
