Hi, thinking of emigrating to New Zealand with my family. Me and S can't make our mind up where to go. We really liked Napier and new Plymouth when we visited before. Lived in Christchurch for 1 year but would prefer the North island - a bit warmer )Anybody out there with any advice regarding living in those places - eg schools, social life, ( we know both got brilliant outdoor life).
Any advice welcome

Hi I live in Wellington and have only visted both those places relatively infrequently. My pick would be Napier for the better climate, vineyards and (slightly) closer proximity to bigger cities (Napier is about 4 hours drive to both Akld and Wgtn where NP would be closer to 5 hours each way).

thanks buzzybee, yeah we are well aware of the distances and also the better climate. My partner lived in NP for 6/12 in past and loved it but we both fell in love with Napier on a recent round the North island tour when we were looking for a place to settle hopefully. Just really need some advice regarding schools and social activities

Sorry can only really suggest you look on www.ero.govt.nz for reports on schools. Don't have much of a clue. My ex-H was from Hastings and his Mum sent him to private boarding school cos she wasn't too impressed with local secondary options at the time - but that was 25 years ago!!

Maybe NP people move to Akld to work but I can report that I've worked with a number of relatively high flying professionals in Wellingon who hailed from the Hawkes Bay originally and none that I can think of from NP...but that's hardly conclusive evidence!
