Do you miss Radio 4 when you're living abroad?

Or even Radio 2 if you're a bit sad like me? I've just got one of these and it's really cool. I know you can listen on the computer but I listen to the radio most in the kitchen so it's great for that.

I listen to radio 2 on the poot. (glad I'm not the only one) Is this thingy that much better than the poot for the money? I might ask Santa for one....

I plunk my laptop on the kitchen table to listen to Radio 4 while I'm cooking, probably not a very good idea.

As long as you've got wireless broadband connnection, it's fairly idiot-proof. The sound's perfectly ok too, unless you're used to really good technology.

OMG sympathies all. I have to have my daily fix. It's kept me sane over the years, and I'm only half joking when I say that!

The thing is the internet is like a drug dealer! First I went to it for (internet) radio fix, then I somehow discovered msn and e-mail for keeping in contact with de folks in ol' Blighty, next I discovered a few blogs I like to follow.... then.... I discovered crackMumsnet.

I think purchasing said product could be a way of getting me back on the straight and narrow!!!!!

I hav noticed that I always turn to R4 whwen things are serious. Doubt there are many on here who remember the Falklands war - I was a teenager living in France at the time, and R4 was a blessed antidote from the gleeful schadenfreude of the froggie press over 'Les Malouines' as they insisted on calling them. Still remeber the day teh Belgrano as sunk as reported by R4. Then during the miners strike I was living in a miserable hovel in London and tuning in every am before work to hear Brian Redhead and John Timpson ( the later 'Today' people just don't cut it). Since they've all got so blateantly leftie ( James Naughtie - ugh!), I've abandoned it for Nicky & Sheila for a bit of light relief, but oddly last month when it looked like the sky was catastrophically falling in our heads economically ad all the banks going bust I found myself turning back to R4...

My dh is going to buy me one!!!!!!!! Thanks scooter - you have changed my life!!!!!!!! Washing up from now on will be a pleasure.... or perhaps I am going a bit far now????

I MISS the Today program in the mornings - used to sit in bed listening while I had my cup of tea. (I am still sufficiently British not to function without my morning cuppa, and R4 at the same time would just make it perfect!)

Whereabouts are you Brioche? If you're anywhere near a place where there's British forces, they broadcast the Today programme on BFBS2 (army radio). They've got a website here if you want to see if you can get it.

They are two different things - if you're in the UK and only want UK radio, then DAB is better I think (clarity, reception etc). But if you want to listen to stuff from all over the world then internet radio is the way to go.

Our fridge broke this weekend... so the extra wonderful radio has been demoted on urgent things to buy list!!! ...

I think it would be more fun to get it for Christmas anyway - beats socks or a cd dh wants to have himself!!!!

Surely if you've already got wireless broadband and a laptop then the laptop option is best - Radio 4 just don't seem to have taken my life into account for their schedule organisation so I listen to just about everything on listen again. It is 23.45 on Saturday and I've just listened to Friday's Archers. However, recently DP did pick up the beautiful iBook he had given me, scrape off a layer of porrige and tomato sauce and say dryly "this computer spends too much time in the kitchen."

Have to agree with T42 though - it's always just one more fix of Mumsnet before I go to bed... There should be a curfew!

Thanks for this - DP is buying one online right this minute. No more lap top in the kitchen. Actually, I want three so I can listen all around the house. Such as shame there's no more Jonathan Ross....
