I was pretty interested to see on TV tonights announcement that the government is spending half of the budget surplass to boost the economy and ward off a reccession.

They are giving families $1000 for each child they have - as long as they are currently receiving family tax benefits for. This is a one off payment which will be given on 8th Dec.

They are also increasing the first time home buyer grant from $7k to $14k if you are buying and excisting home or $21k if you buy/build a new home.

What do you think??? Discuss...

This is completely off topic, but I want to ask my Aussie girlies in our little backwater thread rather than throw it open to the blood-bath arena of the rest of MN.

Would you let your child be a model for a product you wouldn't use?

ghosty · 20/10/2008 05:20

Hmmm ... depends on the product ... I wouldn't let my child be a model advertising Nestle for example

ghosty · 20/10/2008 05:25

Can someone tell me something ... is that $1000 per child only for people who claim child benefit (or family tax benefit)? We are feeling the cruch too but are a smidgeon over the benefits line in earnings so we don't claim and so I don't think we'll be benefitting from this but I suppose that's the way it goes ...

eidsvold · 20/10/2008 05:42

is it a product you are ethically opposed to??

I have no doubt there are a number of people who advertise products they don't use.

ghsoty - it is if you are receiving family tax benefit A. If you may be eligible - go and check out online. You can do an online calculator to see if you are entitled to anything.

I know this is a serious(ish) thread but in case some of you overseaers didn't know:

WE ARE TIRED OF BEING 2ND CLASS MN CITIZENS

WE WANT COMPS!

False alarm!

It was one of those Chinese tonal ambiguities where different words sound almost exactly the same. I thought it was formula (don't have any problem with formula per se, but wouldn't want my DD on the tin of a local brand for obvious reasons - imagine the horror of seeing her face on CNN as contaminated stocks are cleared from supermarket shelves amidst general panic) and wasn't going to do it, but it turns out that it's baby soap.
