Another car seat question for Aussie's !

Hi, we are moving to Melbourne in Jan, and we have a maxi cosi priorifix car seat that has isofix.

Does anybody know if this car seat is compatable with australian laws, and is LATCH system the same as Isofix ?? Confused and don't want to shell out if we can take ours. Also don't want to take it if it's no good.

It seems that only car seats with an Australian Standards mark are approved tho it is at your digression but can invalidate your insurance and children passed the age of 12m should use a seat belt tho a safety seat in reccomended here

hi i have had alook at the picture of the iso fix it looks very different from the aussie ones, the aussie ones attach in the boot or back parcel shelf of the car? with a long strap? I didnt think the iso fix does? I presume if it doesnt anchor in the back it wont be up to aussie standards?

lulalullabye - there are always sales and you can pick up a good car seat for a reasonable amount of money. Stores like BigW, Target and KMart do a variety of seats and they all conform to Aussie standards. We do have very strict seat laws.

How old is your child?? How big - we go by weight here?

some cars have built in anchors

But if you buy a new seat you will get an anchor and you can see the plastic plugs in the back dash that pop out and you put the anchor bolt there. There are places that will do car seat fitting for you.

I got my two older ones convertible booster seats - 5 point harness and then when they are larger you can put on a H-harness and then eventually the car seat belt.

Bloss, the isofix system actually does attach to brackets in the back of the seat that area welded to the body of the car, so sound very similar.
