Roasting hot here, very busy but having a blast. Enjoyed our new gym yesterday and picnic in the park tonight which was wonderful. Live music, handsome young men - need I say more.

Hi everyone, sorry to be such a downer yesterday Apparently I was coming down with something which made it all so overwhelming. Have spent most of the day lying down/sleeping adn hope this is just a 24 hour thing. The boys seemed pretty happy with their Santa loot and had a good day I think.

I like the idea of a walk around the neighborhood, cali. If it's warm enough next year we might try that. Some really spectacular lights around us.

SuperBunny · 26/12/2008 03:18

Hello All

Hope you survived the day

We had a lovely day. Quiet morning for me followed by presents opening on webcam with family in the UK. Then visited neighbour and went to spend afternoon/ evening with friends. Only just got back and DS went straight to bed. I was so proud of him today. Everyone said, "Oh, Dinner's so handsome" and "isn't he good company?" [super proud mummy]

Get well soon, Jabber

SuperBunny · 26/12/2008 03:19

And Califrau, thank you. Dinner grinned at me and said, "We match!"

Was lovely of you and made us both smile.

Ribena3 · 27/12/2008 02:53

No way I could wade through all the chat so far on this thread. But wanted to say hi.
Allipiggie I'm in your back yard in CO.
Boxing day's been great. About to watch New Tricks with Dh. Getting our UK DVD fix.

alipiggie · 27/12/2008 03:42

Ribena3 - where are you?? Wow another Mumsnetter in CO yeah. Welcome to the thread. Christmas day was weird but that's another long story. Survived just. My eldest said that tonight he would like me to find someone special so he's got a dad that's around all the time - sob - here's to an amazing 2009 for us all I hope.

Oh, Ali Am glad you survived. At least it is over for another year.

Poor boy. Yesterday, DS saw a photograph of him, me and his Dad together at his first birthday party and said, "Look Mummy, all of us all together. Me and you and Daddy. Wasn't that nice?"

Welcome Ribena. Are you visiting CO?

anorak · 27/12/2008 17:42

Hello all and I hope you had a really happy Christmas. I haven't been feeling 100% - not sleeping very well but otherwise fine. I showered my family with gorgeous presents I trekked through Boston to buy days after my surgery. They gave me groceries. . Have complained vociferously.

I am really sorry I keep forgetting to post vegetarian recipe ideas for you dooneygirl. Can you remind me why you wanted them and what you were after and I will do it I promise. I've left it so long I've completely lost touch with the whole scene!

SuperBunny · 27/12/2008 17:59

Groceries? I'd complain loudly too.

Is it a proper Legoland? We have a Discovery Centre here which is a small indoor legoland and is ridiculously expensive, very small and quite dull. But DS loved it. Can't help with CA one, sorry.

Oh, it looks really good!

We went this April when the kids were 2 and 4. Everyone had a blast. I was surprised with how many mini-coasters Colin could go on. They both still ask to go back. We just stayed in San Diego by Sea World, and it was a really easy drive. Traffic was going the other way both times.

I got numerous boxes of chocolates, bottles of wine and bottles of fancy sauce. Mostly stuff I would have gone and bought myself if I wanted it. I bought them a Wii with two games, an ipod touch, a spa day, numerous cds, books and games, jewellery, items of clothing and sweets.

It appeared to me that they hadn't bothered to go any further than the supermarket. But anyway DH is sorry and is taking me into town tomorrow to choose some nicer things. He doesn't know that I am going to give him a tutorial

SuperBunny · 28/12/2008 16:23

Oh Anorak, have fun. Please report back on your new improved christmas gifts.

Ribena3 · 28/12/2008 16:27

Denver, alipiggie. Loving the weather today. Sunny of course not been outside to see temp

SuperBunny · 28/12/2008 17:25

OMG, it feels like spring here! It's only minus 2 (but feels like minus 9) and the sun is shining and there is NO snow. I am getting all excited about winter being over and it hasn't even started yet.

Hope you are all having a good weekend. I'm making Baileys Butterscotch cookies and am going singing.

SuperBunny · 28/12/2008 17:36

Did MrsApronstrings change her name?

Earlybird · 28/12/2008 17:53

Mmmmm - Bailey's Butterscotch Cookies sound divine.

DD and I have had several quiet days mostly staying at home. I think it is a reaction to an insane pre-Christmas schedule. It is a beautiful sunny day here, but somehow the couch is far more appealing than making the effort to go out. Though, it is now time for dd to start taking orders for Girl Scout cookies, so perhaps later today we'll start knocking on neighbour's doors.

Anorak - the Christmas gifts you received sound completely uninspired. Are you one of those hard-to-shop-for people, or did they really make no effort? I'm hard to shop for (often buy myself whatever it is I want/need), so have learned to drop obvious hints/ideas several months before Christmas, or have a mental list I spout out when asked what I'd like. Definitely takes away the element of surprise, but after years of receiving mirrored tissue boxes, bad perfume, and yet another scarf....I'd rather guide them along.

dooneygirl · 28/12/2008 18:49

Sorry, Anorak, wasn't ignoring you. IL's were here until this morning, and I only had a quick break on my computer. We're doing 2-3 meatless meals a week just because it is better for you and the environment and animals. Don't worry about it. I can find recipes online. You have other things to think about.

Sitting Bull--We flew down to San Diego and rented a car. Are you just doing Legoland? How long will you be there? We wanted to do more than Legoland, and stayed in San Diego, because there was so much more we wanted to do there than in Carlsbad, where Legoland was. Like Sea World and the Zoo and stuff like that. Carlsbad was about 20-something miles away from SD, so not a long trip.

alipiggie · 28/12/2008 18:53

Ribena3 welcome to my part of the world - are you here to stay?

Favourite meatless meals:

Hearty lentil soup with garlic, onions, carrots, coriander, curry and lemon, served with lots of crusty wholemeal bread.

Vegetable curry with lentils and whatever veg you fancy.

Salad of chickpeas, chopped peppers, tomatoes, onions and sweet chili sauce.

Mushroom omelette with salad.

Pasta with broccoli, cream, parmesan.

Mushrooms cooked in butter and cream sauce served with brown rice.

Aubergine fritters with greek dips: tzatziki and houmous.

Aubergine layered with rich tomato sauce and cheese, and baked in the oven.

Broad beans cooked with onions, garlic and tinned tomato.

Good old cheese and potato pie made by mixing butter and cheese with mashed potato, put a layer of cheese on top and bake in the oven, serve with baked beans.

Veg chili with diced carrots, onions, peppers, kidney beans, tinned tomato and lots of spice.

Gardeners pie - like shepherd's pie but using finely chopped veg cooked in tinned tomato sauce instead of meat.

Cheese and onion pie.

Pasta bake - any fresh or dried pasta cooked and mixed with veg of your choice, place in ovenproof dish. Make a sauce with tinned tomato and milk, thicken with gravy granules or cornflour, you can use campbell's soups in the sauce if you prefer, pour over and mix, sprinkle with cheese and bake till golden.

Cheese board with crackers, bread, and an assortment of salads.

Spaghetti cooked with cherry tomatoes, garlic, chili and olive oil, with a green salad and garlic bread.

I can hear DH coming in so going to get the meal ready, if I think of any more I will post later.
