Wow we filled the thread guys. So as I was about to Say UR you've probably had squirrel if you've eaten Chinese . Think I've had most things. Just don't ask eat. Roasting hot here, very busy but having a blast. Enjoyed our new gym yesterday and picnic in the park tonight which was wonderful. Live music, handsome young men - need I say more.

But you wouldn't know because you are in Bermuda

dooneygirl · 22/12/2008 02:19

That Bahama/Bermuda thing is SO easy to do, isn't it, SB.

Glad to see you anorak. Be happy to see what you got in regards to veggie dishes. I've been doing the Vegetarian option on Stumble Upon, and gotten some more, but so much is Vegan, and I don't want to do that right now. Of course it is almost impossible to do right now, as I only have frozen peas (almost out), frozen beans (almost out), and carrots for veggies right now. Thank goodness for berry picking, because we're out of fresh fruit, too.

SuperBunny · 22/12/2008 02:24

Stumble Upon?

anorak · 22/12/2008 02:31

Don't forget Barbados! That's the other one people often accuse me of living in!

OK I will post some food ideas tomorrow. This time I should be vaguely compus mentis so I should remember!

dooneygirl · 22/12/2008 02:35

Oh, seriously, you don't want to know, a waaaayyy to easy way to kill massive amounts of time. It is basically a toolbar that you download, and chose different categories of things that interest you, and you hit the stumble button, and it generates random web pages based on what kinds of things you tell it you like. The more you do it, the more it "gets" what you like, and has those things pop up. You can choose single categories at a time, like I mostly only choose food ones. Stumbleupon.com if you dare, but the home page doesn't really do a good job of explaining about it.

I have always wanted to do the coke ham recipe, it sounds amazing. Will have to do it sometime DH isn't around to see it cooking, because I know he'll wrinkle his nose. I have a question about it, though. I know Mexican Coke is different than American Coke, because we don't use real sugar and they do. Is British Coke different than American Coke, and if so, does it affect the recipe?

I'm doing a French Silk Pie for Christmas. I'm halfway thinking of changing my posting name to Valrhona in honor of my new favorite chocolate.

Nibny is a great word! Am glad the ham is delicious.

Why won't you touch real coke, CF? I'm the opposite - if I have to drink fizzy stuff, I'd rather it be the full fat/ sugar/ caffeine version.

Will not look on StumbleUpon for now, Dooney. Thanks for the warning.

mananny · 22/12/2008 15:46

StumbleUpon is evil. Try it at your peril. LOL.

Well, I am off to the Great White North. Wish me luck on the roads. Am prepared for a 5 hour journey. Will let you know when I get there

Good Luck mananny

I like full fat mexican coke in glass bottles. but I never drink it.

I have hiccups again (Why is it no longer spelt hiccoughs?)

dooneygirl · 22/12/2008 19:16

Well, DH is at work, and they've closed the road he barely made it up yesterday to our house. There is one other way he could go, but it is much steeper, and less traveled, and has a guard, but is a huge drop-off. Unless something changes, he's going to be sleeping at his store tonight.

Was just talking to several of my friends, and we can't figure out why they aren't plowing anything but the freeways. The road they closed was an expressway, that was a main route for a city of 23,000 on a hill.

SuperBunny · 22/12/2008 19:24

How strange that they aren't plowing. Hope he can stay somewhere nicer than the store. Poor Mr Dooney.

Can you talk to me about making cheese? Did you ever make any? If so, what? And How?

SuperBunny · 22/12/2008 19:46

That sounds disappointing, Cali. But fun... I'm curious. I might have to make some.

dooneygirl · 22/12/2008 19:47

I made ricotta, too. Am on the fence about it, really. I have a recipe for mozzarella, but have read lots of places of people with the same experience as Cali's brother, that the process itself was fairly easy, but it just wasn't worth it for the taste. And then my paneer experiment, which didn't impress me. I was quite gung-ho about it, but have totally lost momentum as the results just haven't been worth it.

He was talking about getting a hotel, but I guess it is rumored they are going to close down the expressway his store is on, as people aren't making it up the on-ramp, and crashing on the off-ramp. I'm a little panicked as we're running out of some staples like milk and fruit and veggies, and if they're not plowing the roads now, are they ever going to start? There have been several people who live out past us that have been stuck at their stores for 2 days, and it is only supposed to continue to snow, and not even start to get better until Friday.

SuperBunny · 22/12/2008 19:55

What a nightmare Dooney. I do hope they decide to start plowing.

Will think about cheese. Thanks for the help.

Earlybird · 22/12/2008 20:07

Dooney - sounds dreadful for your dh. We've no snow here, but it is the coldest day in 15 years (was 9F this morning, and not much warmer now).

I do have pics of our lovely Christmas cookies, but am a technophobe and have no idea how to post them online (don't have a MN profile either . You'll have to take my word for it - they're fab....snowmen, Christmas trees, bells, snowflakes, doves, stars, holly leaves, etc.

dooneygirl · 23/12/2008 00:40

Apparently the entire county here only has a few plows, and one of them got stuck. Someone finally got their head out of their ass, and managed to plow the bad road, which I don't understand why they didn't as I bet it is one of the top 10 busiest roads in the county. DH just called, and not only is he close to home, he's at the store, and took a grocery list!!!!!!!

SuperBunny · 23/12/2008 03:47

Hooray for Mr Dooney! LOL @ snow plow getting stuck. I think your county snow plow people should come out here and see how it should be done. Before a storm comes, you see lines of snow plows, sometimes 6 or more of them, driving along waiting for a storm.

My car is unstuck! Ex actually did it. And put petrol in it. And suggested he take it to get repaired tomorrow. I am now feeling rather suspicious of all this niceness.

dooneygirl · 23/12/2008 03:50

I'm not sure if even Portland has that many. The news stories here were all about how nothing is getting plowed, because there isn't a lot of money, and since we don't usually need them, snowplows are very far down on the list. And there isn't anywhere that salts anything.

I guess it got stuck in a driveway or something. Something about they're fine except for turning around in small areas.

Not sure to be or about ex.

SuperBunny · 23/12/2008 04:21

Well hopefully your bad winter will be short lived and there will be no need for snow plows.

I have a slightly odd query. I would like to know about laundry detergent. I use unscented but I miss the smell. So, what do you use? What smells really good? DS has eczema so I have to be careful but I want something that smells nice for days.

dooneygirl · 23/12/2008 04:45

We need them now. Cross your fingers, it is above freezing not to far to the south of here, even IL's, so if nothing bad happens, they will make it up Wednesday. I guess a bunch of "warm" air hit today, and even on the mountain passes there isn't snow on the road, just the sides of the road.

dooneygirl · 23/12/2008 04:46

I hit post too quickly. Wasn't ignoring your laundry question. I love scented, too, but find everything overpowering, and use unscented myself.
