How disappointing, Cali!

While I'm here...

My name is SuperBunny and I am addicted to food porn.

And I blame Dooney.

anorak · 13/10/2008 15:47

We went to a Canadian thanksgiving party last night, my first time ever celebrating this event that doesn't exist in England.

Had a lovely turkey dinner with our Canadian expat friends, everyone brought a dish of something, the wine flowed and a good time was had by all.

DH and I were saying that we really enjoy the sociable lifestyle here in Bermuda. People aren't afraid to invite a crowd round to their house for dinner, if they're busy they just get people to bring a dish. I used to have dinners and parties in my house in England and people would act as if I were Martha Stewart or something! We rarely got invited to other people's places for food - people are too stressed and busy. I think all the joy has been sucked out of life in the UK

My mother used to say, you work to live, you don't live to work. People in the UK need to remember that and get a bit of quality back in their lifestyle.

I've done a pathwords game for you

SuperBunny · 13/10/2008 19:40

Bloody Hell, Cali. What a complete and utter nightmare.

dodgykeeper · 13/10/2008 19:53

Oh Cali!

What a nightmare

Anorak, your evening sounded great. I like doing bring a dish - its so much less stressful. You don't have to worry about allergies or special diets cause you know that everyone can at least eat what they brought!

This week will be one year since we arrived. It doesn't seem that long since I was sitting in Scotland asking you all lots of stupid questions! We kind of celebrated it this weekend in a british way. On Saturday we managed to get a babysitter so we went for a curry and then saw Tropic Thunder at the Dollar Saver. They show all the films that are finished at the regular cinema which is fine for us as we are always behind the times! Then I cooked a big roast dinner yesterday with veg soup, then roast beef, roast potatoes, borcolli, carrots and gravy, then apple crumble and birds custard. We ended the day by watching "Mock The Week" which mysteriously got from the internet onto a dvd and I have no idea how

SuperBunny · 13/10/2008 19:57

Anorak, it does sound lovely over there. I am .

Congrats on surviving your first yr, Dodgy!

The sun is shining and the kids are all outside having fun. I found weetabix in our local store this morning and there is a nice bottle of californian white in the fridge just waiting for a more acceptable hour. Life doesn't get much better!

dooneygirl · 14/10/2008 02:20

How dare you blame me for your sordid doings.

Could it have BEEN any worse for you, Cali? And I'm not being flippant at all, I just got done typing that, and that was immediately what came to mind when I read it.

Colin's back up to 99.8 since after school today. I know it is barely a fever, but I'm still very worried. I finally got to vent to my best friend as she was away this weekend (everyone else is great to talk to, but you know how it is, she gives her undivided attention, a sympathetic ear, and tells me how horrible it was for me) and she was telling me about someone we both knew at the old icky school Colin went to that also has a 5 yo DS, and he gets febrile seizures every time he gets a fever. The parents have never taken him in, and only diagnosed it through a book. I think my mouth is still hanging wide open about that.

DK, I love the sentence fragment "which mysteriously got from the internet to a DVD and I have no idea how.

SuperBunny · 14/10/2008 03:55

Dooeny

And at diagnosing from a book. Who does that, when their child could be so ill?

Weetabix and wine? Wow!

dooneygirl · 14/10/2008 04:22

Why do you think I call it the old icky school and say bad things about it every time I can? It is the same school where I went to pick a child up and the mom opened the door to a house that had dried cat poop all over the floor. That is who does that.

I'm seriously giving thought to changing my name to Dooeny.

SuperBunny · 14/10/2008 04:26

Dooeny is so much better, don't you think?

I'm appalled at those people. Poor kids.

I have a tiny brag story - I took DS to a music class last week, where they were training new teachers. Our usual teacher came up to me afterwards and said, in front of everyone, "I'm so proud of Dinner. Like he's my own son" He hadn't done anything special but it was lovely. She obviously hasn't seen him mid-tantrum, like Dooeny.

SuperBunny · 14/10/2008 04:27

I mean, seen him mid-tantrum like Dooney has. Not that Dooney has tantrums like Dinner. I promised her I wouldn't tell you about that

dooneygirl · 14/10/2008 04:40

That's it, I'm demanding my money back.

I'm still wondering when he threw a tantrum. So is DH, and, trust me, he has a much lower threshold for what constitutes a tantrum than I do.

He's looking over my shoulder now and reading what you wrote. He says he misses you, because you don't seem weird like my other friends. I told him that was because we only met for a few hours, and I'm sure if he had to see you on a regular basis you would seem weird too.

and

alipiggie · 14/10/2008 04:46

Hello everyone. We had great excitement here - not only the first snow. So no complaining it's hot please, but school was let out at 12pm as ceiling tiles fell down and they were worried for asbestos. My two were the last two nearly to be picked up. Thank god for babysitters.

Snow's gone down here, but the Rockies look so beautiful. Great for business, might keep me in a job. Oh and the Dow closed up a record high for those of you keeping note. Other than that, been sick, so not much else to report other than work, work, work.

CF so sorry you had the trip from hell, you deserve a medal woman.

LOL Dooney!

Snow??? OMG, it was 90 degrees here today. Hope there is no asbestos and that school can commence forthwith.

Prickly pear syrup? What's that? What do you eat it with? How very unusual.
