I just finished the old thread by accident

Ooo, I just had a lovely night out. All by myself! I went to a free concert downtown - it was Opera Choruses and was wonderful. Outdoors, on the lawn, fullmoon and fabulous music. I love this city

I came home and am scoffing a nice bowl of homemade spinach and chick pea curry (from my bean boiling fest this afternoon)

How do you make almond butter?

SuperBunnyisUnderRated · 17/08/2008 17:55

Sorry to have spoiled it for you, Califrau!

Almond Butter (makes 1 jar)

2 cup/ 500 ml Almonds (raw, whole)
4 ? 6 tbsp oil
salt (optional)

Preheat oven to 350

Bake almonds for 12 ? 14 mins til toasted & lightly brown
Blend til they are ground
Add 2 tbsps oil, slowly, so it turns into a paste

Keeps for 1 month

anorak · 17/08/2008 18:15

ooooh! What kind of oil do you use?

Almond butter costs a fortune in the shops here.

SuperBunnyisUnderRated · 17/08/2008 19:00

That's why I made it, Anorak - it costs $6 - 10 here and I refused to buy it.

I used veg oil (can't remember what kind) but you could probably use olive oil if it doesn't taste too strong.

Is Gap too casual? They do lineny things but perhaps not smart enough.

Gymboree (don't know if they go big enough)

Children's Place They have really good sales but they might be to surf ratty

H&M?

I'd probably get someone to go shopping in England and send it.

Actually, I have no idea where I'd go.

Oh dear, it doesn't sound good. The is definitely where dressing a little girl might be simpler.

I don't suppose Target has anything?

My DS is too young and has nothing suitable anyway so I can't help, I'm afraid. But if you need a nice pair of blue sparkly high heels for DS2, let me know Usually worn with nothing else but they might work with lineny lushness...

SuperBunnyisUnderRated · 18/08/2008 03:36

YAy for Gap! Even Old Navy?

I should add that DS wears the shoes, not me. I don't prance around the house completely naked in DS's play shoes. Really, I don't.

2beautifulgirls · 18/08/2008 14:01

Hi everyone, came by a few months back and have been AWOL since, organising things here!
Incase you need a refresh:
DH (US citizen), Me (UK citizen) DD1 (UK citizen, just finialised adoption with DH) and DD2 (dual UK/US citizen) are all moving stateside in May 2009. Currently going through visa process just delaying interview until closer to date we want to leave.

So Me and DD1 have our medicals for our visas next week which we are now all prepared for had to both go and get some shots at the doctors, DD1 had hep B today and will need another in a month then 6 months time.
However DD2 being Dual citizen doesn't need a visa so no medical or shots required right now. However i know the immunisation programme in the US is different from here in the UK. Therefore when we do arrive DD2 will not be upto date on US requirements. I thought that it might be easier and cheaper to get the shots that are required for her here on the NHS. So do any of you know where i will find the information on what is required for her age? She is 2 will be 3 in June.
TIA

SuperBunny · 18/08/2008 14:36

Hi 2beautiful

Seems so ridiculous that some of you need medicals but not others. There is an immunization schedule here Not sure how up to date it is. HTH

SuperBunny · 19/08/2008 01:08

Ooo, I'm at work and we have someone named Bunny staying here

Much cheaper. 9 years ago when I started college as an "older student", I had no proof of having a certain shot, so they wouldn't let me in without having it again. My Dr. told me to do it at the health center at the college because it was much cheaper, and it came to almost $60, as it wasn't covered on my insurance since I was an adult.

If you are planning to send DD to preschool or daycare here, be sure to keep the proof of immunization handy, as the state will make you fill out a form wanting to know what immunizations DD had and when. If she doesn't have the required amount by a certain time, she gets kicked out. I'm going to have to do that in a few weeks, and can tell you which ones are required and how many doses she will need to have, if that will help any? It will be for DD who is going to turn 3 next week. It also has spots for ones they don't have to have but are "recommended". You will have to fill it out all over again when she goes to regular school.

SuperBunny · 19/08/2008 01:17

Not as Super as me, no

Actually it's probably a little bit sad that the first thing i do when I get to work and flick through the registration book is post on MN about someone's name. But I had to tell someone and noone else would understand

dooneygirl · 19/08/2008 01:21

The name Bunny makes me cringe. The name SuperBunny is totally acceptable, though.

Thanks Dooney!

Califrau, that's the sort of thing I'd do Please share the good'uns, won't you. I still inwardly snigger, very childishly, when I sit next to Randy.

dooneygirl · 19/08/2008 01:27

What is an example of a "classic" name, just out of curiosity?

Earlybird · 19/08/2008 01:52

Hi all - just got dd to bed (earliest all summer by an hour at least), as she starts school tomorrow (second grade).

I'll be glad to have a routine and some time to myself again, but dread the school year 'grind'. I'll miss dd tomorrow - the house will seem too quiet!

When do your dc start back at school?
