As it says! I’d like to give them something that isn’t ‘stuff’ to carry and in an ideal world something or somewhere they might meet other parents in Kansas City??

My immediate thought was a Target gift card. Not very exciting, but they can buy just about anything there. But that doesn't really fit your "meet other parents" requirement.
