Has anyone lived in Costa Rica before or can comment on what it's like staying there for extended periods of time?

My husbands work has a base there and we have an oppertunity to go out with his work. We haven't nailed down the exact length of time yet.

We have bought a house in Costa Rica with the aim of retiring there. We can't afford to do that yet so at the moment, just go out a couple of times a year. We have a couple of sets of neighbours who are European and have lived in CR for many years and are very happy there.
It's a lovely country.

@cariadlet
Do you find the humidity a problem? I have heard it can be quite draining.
Like you, I can't leave yet but should be able to in a few years.
I am getting more and more depressed living in the UK and I think I need to leave either permanently or at least for extended periods each year.

@redboxer321 The heat and humidity are both very high but they don't bother me.

I don't like very hot weather in the UK but over there, I can put in a few hours hard graft in the garden, be dripping with sweat and I don't mind it at all. I'm not sure if it's because of different expectations or because I'm not leading my usual, mundane life with the added annoyance of very high heat.

It's not the same for everyone. I've taken my mum to Costa Rica a couple of times and she loves it but says that she really struggles with the humidity.

Thanks @cariadlet.
Sadly, I think I might be the same as your mum. I remember going for a run in Christchurch in NZ, which can also be humid, and my legs felt like stone. Not sure I could cope with high humidity for long.
I am planning to visit though so you never know, I might find I cope with it as you do.
I am determined to not spend the rest of my life in UK. At least not 52 weeks a year. Lots to consider 😀

@redboxer321 It's definitely worth visiting Costa Rica on holiday to see if you could cope with the humidity. It's a beautiful country.
