Swiss Permits

I‘ve been living in CH for 13 years. I’m a British passport holder and am married to a Swiss man. We have children and have bought a house. Zero plans to leave.

I currently have a B permit that is up for renewal soon.

I know there is also a C permit. Is it worth going after this? I‘m not quite sure what the advantages would be.

How long have you been married?
In some cases the B will automatically be upgraded to the C.
You do want the C permit because it is more secure. And think about going for the passport.

Look at Ch.ch for more info.

Thanks for the reply. We’ve been married 10 years. Will check out the website.

I have been considering getting the passport, especially since Brexit!

We’re British with C permits. We moved here pre Brexit so have retained EU rights but it just felt more secure. We have no plans to leave, our children were born here and this is where our life is now. It was very easy for us, we just needed a German certificate for A2 speaking and A1 reading and writing. I think it can vary slightly by Kanton though. The biggest difference for us is that we no longer have withholding tax taken by our employers but I guess being married to a Swiss citizen you already don’t have it taken anyway.
