Renting Condo in Singapore - what to look out for!

Hi! Moving from UK to Singapore and looking online at condos to rent, we’d like a modern condo, with facilities & close to MRT (won’t have a car). Any experience of pitfalls / key things to ask about or look out for when viewing or engaging with the rental agents in Singapore? Not familiar with the Singaporean process (but familiar with UK!) TIA

Have you got help like an agent to find? Do you know where is work / school relative to areas?

For most international schools they have buses (albeit not cheap) so you can be further away from your accommodation or in a more awkward place relative to the school than it looks

I can talk about what to look for but contract wise wasn’t involved so can’t help there

feel free to DM

Condo build year can tell you a bit about the quality of the bathrooms etc - we are in one about 10 years old and the bathrooms are ok, some older properties weren’t our style

Older places typically will be cheaper and more spacious

Singaporean here (living in the UK now). There are so many train stations at the minute (vs literally 2 train lines when I was growing up.....). Finding a condo beside a train station should be relatively easy. Really new build condos will be tiny even if 3 beds. The older ones will be bigger. Happy for you to DM.

That’s the challenge at the moment, not secured yet, so just doing a bit of research! Thanks for sharing re: busses.

Make sure you have hot water in the kitchen. Lots dont as they expect "maids" to do washing up in cold water. We rented eithout knowing this and bought a dishwasher. You will find it hard to find somewhere (no matter how expensive) that is not looking directly in to another flat. We went to Pasir PAnjang and had an open view over harbour area but it was difficult to find.

oh wow, I had not even realised about “no hot water in the kitchen” - mind blown, we always have used hot water! Thank you for the tip
