I have no idea.

Not sure what ideas I should plant in their heads. Although I did point out a lovely bag and wallet to dd2 who asked dh for them for me - dh told her to tell me as long as it is no more than $10 I am okay stingy bugger!!!!

I would love to have a lay in followed by a day which involves no cooking, cleaning or anyone whinging at me.
Maybe a trashy magazine, endless cups of tea and timtams too.

ditto, lay in with magazine, not have to do breakfast, shower, dress everybody, dishes, tidy etc etc....lunch and dinner cooked - day shopping with friends....

instead looks like we've got a 7 hour round trip to sil's sunday lunch for her anniversary - think bumpy windy roads, green whingy kids and me. Few sandwiches polite banter then jump in the car home - can't wait.

A whole nights sleep! with ds now one week old i should be so lucky... If i cant have that id like dh to stop sulking for just one day about how useless he is and how litle he can do for ds.....ok so i may have to settle for a take away for dinner!

Well DH has invited an old friend and his wife who are over from the UK visiting her family to stay for the weekend. I thought it would be nice to see them for lunch one day (NOT Mother's Day) but no, apparantly I'm picking them up from the train station sometime on Friday, they'll let me know when, and they might stay until Monday (DS1 is off to camp on Monday - we have to get up at 5am). Last time I met the friend his (different) girlfriend was puking all over the place at our wedding reception and he thought it was hilarious. DH has decided that because they have a toddler they need to have our bedroom because the pull out sofa is in the office with too many wires around. He is planning on taking his mate to see DS1 playing rugby on Sunday morning so I guess I'm going to be up very early on Mother's Day entertaining an unknown woman and small child in a house I can only describe as totally unsuitable for small children as mine lie in bed. I will probably then cook lunch. DH thinks I am a mean and nasty person because I don't think that this is a great plan.

Was that more information than you wanted? Have I mentioned that I am not very happy

oh sunny - that is totally crap - I htink you should book yourself a weekend away at a spa boutique hotel - dh's shout - for the weekend after.

I would not be happy either!

Well, I don't know about wishes. I had thought the deathly silence about The Day meant that great plans were afoot to surprise and entrance me.

Fat chance. I had to engineer a meal at our local ( very good) restaurant. DD offered to take me shopping in Southlands, Melbourne for the red handbag I want. No thanks.

We shall see.

It is tomorrow here in Aus.

Well I managed to get dh to buy me some nice underwear - but told him it was not suitable for the dds to give me that - so sent dh and dd2 off this morning.

We are off to lunch today - dd1 does not cope well with crowds so we usually go the day before.

Dd1 made me a gorgeous cupcake at prep and at her sn unit - they did a gorgeous picture of a teapot with a teabag in ready for a cup of tea - so had a lovely afternoon tea yesterday.

Sibble - what a bonus - sending positive vibes for treats now.......

well I've just discovered that DH didn't even know it was Mother's Day tomorrow, and as the DC are 3 and 1, I'm not expecting much!

I've got a - well, THING - that DD 'made' at prschool out of leaves and lavender, but as it's also got a picture of a duck on it, she thinks it's hers anyway. I might just take myself out shopping tomorrow as a treat

looks like I'm getting bugger all as was out all afternoon at a 95th birthday party and so DH didn't get out - he knows that I am Cross about it so I should at least get some time out alone tomorrow to look at the shops/drink coffee in peace. which is pretty much all I look for in a good day out these days anyway

we had lunch out today and then I had a few hours of coffee, cake and window shopping. Tomorrow - usual thing - but we are going to see my mum tomorrow. Dd2 says to me as she is talking on the phone to my mum tonight - can I tell grandma we got her flowers!!! I said not - don't think grandma heard - she is a little hard of hearing.

Dd2 gave me a bunch of flowers today when she got home from the shops with dh. Dd1 cracked me up at lunch - dd2 said happy mother's day mummy, dd1 said - happy birthday mother's day bless.

I had a card from Ds from nursery and dh asked 'what's that for??' so looks like nada (again) for me!
I'm doing the mothers day classic 10k run though in the morning so I'm hoping for temps above freezing (in Canberra) then a HUGE cooked brekkie afterwards!

bamamama - I forgot we had a mumsnetter in Canberra. I am heading off there for the weekend - sans dh and dds in late August. Doing some family research at the national archives and visiting the war memorial to also check out some family stuff. I am sure it will be freezing.

Eidsvold - hope you have a great weekend in Canberra - If you don't know Canberra at at (apologies if you do) the War Memorial is great (if that's the right way to describe it) Also very good cafe in the National Library (not far from the archives). I'll be back in Scotland by then, bet it's still colder for me!

oh thanks for that info. Am just deciding whether to go B and B since I shall be child free or whether to just go to a big anonymous hotel and enjoy being lost in the crowd.

Have been to Canberra twice - once when I was 11 for a school trip and when I was 19 - so 30 and then 20 years ago - no doubt it has changed a bit since then

How did it go today Bama? I am v.impressed at your run. 10K? I will be skulking back to WWWs bootcamp thread yet again in shame soon.

For my Mother's Day present DD duly presented me with a purse that I had helpfully told DP to buy, along with the picture ripped out from the David Jones catalogue and escort to the exact location in the store so there could be no mistake/confusion/trauma.

I also got a 2 hour lie in (who would ever have thought that 8am would be so thrilling) and treated myself to the Wii Fit to address my lardy arse problem.

Eids, what a great trip to Canberra! You must be very excited. What are you hoping to find out at the archives? DD has been calling today Valentines Day .

DP is taking us out for dinner and if I get out of doing the bath/bed/hairdry/stories routine I will consider today a success.

well I 'm having a lovely time so far
dh bought me a pack of my favourite pork product and msg chinese snacks and a box of chocs as well as assorted crafts from the fragrant boys.
However I was rather hoping for someone to have performed liposuction on my fat shoulders and belly before I woke up but so far no joy. Hey ho

Eidsvold - losing yourself in the crowd in Canberra is hard - it really is a ghost town! (compared to, say, Sydney). However it is a lovely city to walk round as it's pretty green with loads of green spaces (watch out for the mad road bikes - we can cycle on the pavements in the ACT!). Try and fit in a visit to the national gallery (also a venue for nice cake! Honestly, if you need cake venue recommendations I'm your woman.) or hire a bike at the lake. I will endeavour to stop sounding like a Canberra public information service now.

arfishy - enjoy your dinner out and, you know, I reckon it's worth just asking for what you want for these occasions - everybody's happy.

I managed my run in 51 minutes so actually I'm pretty chuffed with that. It was a great atmosphere and moving to see so many people who were running in memory of or for people with breast cancer. There for the grace...etc. etc.

Suzy, mothers day just isn't the same without pork products.. never mind about the lipo, can't have one with the other it would seem.
