Yes, he hasn't earned his d anyway in the last few weeks and he won't be getting it back before the move!

Kindersurprise · 12/06/2008 12:28

Ernest
How very rude of your midwife

I love the name Adele (British pronounciation) and I think that for the Germans it is an unusual, maybe that is why she was so strange. I will ask German DH what he thinks. I think it sounds quite musical.

My friend says she likes it, that it is a bit old fashioned. There was a actor couple Jakob und Adele. Friend finds British pronounciation lovely. She says it is none of midwifes business.

Re Krankenkasse, I had a home help. I just had to fill out a form and get my Frauenärtzin to sign it. Talk to your Doc/krankenkass about it. Should be no problem though. I did not have anyone nearby either.

Kindersurprise · 12/06/2008 13:17

Off for a few days to visit the ILs in Würzburg. Wonder how long it will take before I am climbing the walls. FIL probably has that on his schedule too.

7 Uhr Frühstück

12 Uhr Mittagessen

15 Uhr Kaffee und Kuchen

17.30 Uhr Abendbrot

20 Uhr Tagesthemen (with unqualified remarks about everything and anything on the news. Including several "Ach, wenn ich DER wieder mal sehe, Das ist ein Rindvieh" about misc. German politicians.

21 Uhr Schwiegertochter tickt aus

AAARrrrrrggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh!!

They are lovely really but they do get on my nerves. Probably cause I am waiting for them to get on my nerves.

taipo · 12/06/2008 14:12

lol kindersurprise. That sounds just like my visits to mil

admylin · 13/06/2008 09:07

Reporting back about the name Adele! Only found 2 Germans to ask and they said the same, abit old fashioned in german but English version nice! So looks like youll just have to go round putting everyone right about how to say it ernest!

Glorious rain here in Berlin today, I love it but it made me homesick. I'm from one of the most rained on parts of UK and as I was walking back this morning with my shopping and my brolly the grey sky and rain just reminded me of summer back home, I grew up in wellies and rain coats so I don't mind rain abit.

berolina · 13/06/2008 09:25

Congrats Ernest! Adele is a lovely name A-de-la is OK actually, but Ad-ell is just lovely. I keep crossing beautiful names off our (VERY hypothetical) dd list because the German pronunciation would mangle them IMO - names like Beatrice, Rosalind and Miriam. It's difficult because we'd need a name that ends in a consonant sound really (surname starts with a vowel) - ruling out all -a names Oh well - I am of the opinion that dc3 - if/when we go for it - would be a ds3 anyway

There is a schism in ds1's Kinderladen. 2 of the Erzieherinnen - the two who do ds1's group - are leaving due to unüberwindbare Differenzen. I'm very pissed off at what's been going on behind the scenes and kept from the parents - we are supposed to be an Elterninitiative - and we're pulling ds1 out. Means finding a new place There is talk of starting a new one up with the 2 who are leaving, but I think this is probably not going to happen.

admylin · 13/06/2008 09:49

That's really bad luck berolina, your ds seemed happy there too. Our school is having big problems with the Erzieherinnin too and it's usually the dc who suffer. Mostly politics or money. Maybe now would be the right time to move if you find a flat with a garden and then find a nice kita for your boys.

SSSandy2 · 13/06/2008 11:27

berolina maybe have a look at the Montessori bilingual one in Zehlendorf. I have only heard positive reports on it.

SSandy, you know when your dd goes horse riding - does she have proper Reithosen? For dd's school trip they sent a note to say either Reithose or appropriate trousers NOT jeans. do you think she'll be OK in leggings or jogging trousers then? And then Reithandschuhe bzw Lederhandschuhe do you really think I should try and get those? Seems abit extreme to expect all these inner-city kids to own Lederhandschuhe! Dd certainly doesn't and if it's going to 30° again she won't last long in her winter gloves!

ErnestTheBavarian · 15/06/2008 17:42

thanks for name feedback

I'm trying to get sorted. Anyone know per chance if any supermarkets do home delivery?

Need o sort out Haushaltshilfe which seems extraordinarily complicated. feel like giving up, shopping, and changing my Frauenarzt Sigh.

At least my mum and step dad have gone.

taipo · 15/06/2008 19:37

Hi Ernest. Hope all is well with your lo and that you can get your Haushaltshilfe sorted out.

Afik none of the supermarkets deliver here and indeed I really miss weekly tesco delivery .

Lots of people get stuff delivered from bofrost but I think they only do frozen stuff. Still, might be a good way of stocking up your freezer. Our freezer isn't very big so I've never ordered anything through them in case I get carried away and can't fit it all in.

thequietone · 16/06/2008 07:56

Morning, anyone there? Having a nightmare day today. DS2 is having his first set of inoculations in half an hour and I'm dreading the next 72 hours of waiting for fevers, crying etc.

Also, DS1 has woken up with a swollen eye area. Last night he had a little red patch on his cheekbone. Looked like stubble rash from when Daddy kisses him. This morning, whoomph, all swollen around the cheek. He was playing in the fields yesterday. Asked KiGa this morning and they said don't bother with the doctor, but the Apotheke. Do you think it's a case of antihistamines? If so, any idea what to ask for?

Damn, got to go. Time to take DS2 to doctors.

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

x

admylin · 16/06/2008 09:41

Hi Ernest, check out the Kaisers supermarket website. If I remeber rightly they do online shopping and delivery in Munich and Berlin only. Maybe you are counted as Munich.

For all your baby and cosmetic/cleaning stuff go on Schlecker.de and order a months worth in one go, they deliver free from 30 Euro upwards. I used to do that when I needed nappies, baby stuff and just got all my cleaning and bathroom stuff at the same time. Schlecker even has good prices but the shop at Kaisers will be expensive I think.

Quietone, are you in an area where you have to watch out for Zecken? I'd get that rash checked to make sure it wasn't a zeckenbiss.

SSSandy2 · 16/06/2008 09:54

hi admylin, dd has proper riding trousers (don't know if they'd fit but you could borrow them if you want, kind of thick stretchy cream coloured cord type material) but I'd go for tracksuit pants, you just want something stretchy and comfortable and not too thin which doesn't have seams that can be pressed into your inner thighs and rub and hurt, that kind of thing.

I honestly don't think you need leather gloves, or any gloves at all really. They are being ridiculous expecting you to kit the dc out with all this stuff for a couple of days beginner's riding. What is important is a hat but hopefully they are being provided.

How are your dc thequietone? What did the doctor say?

OP posts:
admylin · 16/06/2008 10:15

Hi SSSandy, I think you are right, I'll send her with a few pairs of jogging trousers and the hats will be provided. I honestly don't think they'lll actually be on the horses for long. There are 50 children going (2 classes) and they'll spend a lot of time doing stable work (I bet) and the place won't have 50 horses either so they'll be going in shifts!

It's suddenly hit me today how I'm going to mis smy friends here, haven't gor hundreds but I an going to be really lonely in Hannover. How are you coping Ernest, with not knowing anyone? Suppose you're busy anyway with Adele during the day but do you not feel as if you're going mad alone all day - I mean you can talk and chat away to a baby but she won't answer!

thequietone · 16/06/2008 13:36

God, Ernest, I missed the birth announcement. Congratulationa!!! (I'll scroll back through the posts to catch up). Hope you're mending OK.

Well, DS1's swollen face is no longer. Thank god, as all the Apothekes were closed at the time I have to walk into the town. Could bear the thought of walking in the rain for the 3rd time today to find out what was wrong. Anyway, there's nothing on his face now. Definitely a reaction to something, though.

DS2 has now been dosed up with 7 inoculations. It's just a waiting game now, see if he gets a fever etc. The poor mite sobbed his little heart out when they came at him with the needles. I couldn't watch him in pain - just kept kissing his head I'm going to sob in a minute!).

Is anyone else wearing jumpers? This is ridiculous...

taipo · 17/06/2008 07:45

Hi, thequietone. I hope your ds is OK today. I've been terrified of ds getting a fever ever since he had a febrile convulsion when he was 2. That wasn't linked to a vaccination though and actually he's been fine with all his vaccinations.

I'm sitting here with a jumper on. It's not really cold today but summer it is not. And it's started raining again. The new outdoor pool opened here a couple of weeks ago but it's hardly been used so far I think. Hope it warms up soon then I can moan about the heat

taipo · 17/06/2008 08:23

OK, still raining here and 14 degrees on the thermometer so pretty cold really, but I've got to force myself to go out and buy a present for dh's birthday.

Does anyone else get annoyed when it rains here and you get comments along the lines of "oh, well being English you must be used to this sort of weather"?

SSSandy2 · 17/06/2008 08:56

hi taipo, very sunny here today, was almost blinded coming back from school, even with sunglasses on!

Admylin, maybe you should do the rounds of the English speaking churches when you get there to find your feet. People there will guide you towards other English speaking activities. Here are some things I found:

international bible church

baptists

anglicans

English food - quote from toytown "import store in Lister Meile 38 called Britannia, just north of the Pavilion. Your homesickness will come at a price, though...other than that, the Feinschmeckerparadies food store in the basement of the Kaufhof at the train station also has some imported foods from the USA and UK."

thequietone · 17/06/2008 09:21

Morning Taipo,
DS2 slept well last night, no fever. Me? I slept terribly, waiting for something to happen. His cousin had a dreadful reaction to inoculations and stopped breathing several times, so I'm acutely aware - and stressed! He's asleep at the moment, but I might go and prod him in a minute...

Am in DH's wool jumper here. It's tipping down and so cold. Just checked the weather though and it should be sun and heat by the weekend. Good job as two friends are coming over from the UK. I can't wait!! Especially since they're bringing Marmite!

SSSandy2 · 17/06/2008 09:26

You could also have a look at these two groups:

admylin · 17/06/2008 10:51

Very down today, I don't want to move house - well some days I do and other days it is just getting to me. Also with no help or support and doing everyting else by myself I could just walk out and leave today

SSSandy2 · 17/06/2008 10:56

oh you poor thing, it's just so much stress, isn't it? I do wish your dh would consider once in a while how much of a burden you carry at times. It is so much easier if you feel you have someone pulling along and doing things with you.

Is there anythign I can do to help?

OP posts:
thequietone · 17/06/2008 10:56

Hi Sssandy2,

Having a great time in Munich. My god, I wish I spoke the language more, though. Yesterday at the doctors was a nightmare! I stopped my evening classes at home when I had DS2, and I can't get the boys settled early enough in the evenings yet to resume them. DH has an Oxford German course on CD and book here - I think I might dig that out and get going again. I just get SO frustrated, and slip into French instead, which gets some strange looks!

Apart from the language, all good. Worrying frantically about Lymes Disease so might get DS1 inoculated - he loves playing in the woods at the end of the road.

Wish they sold Marmite at Tengelmann, though...
