Hello there

I´m not near you but have you tried www.mumsinspain.com?

There are lots of mums on there who are in your part of Spain.

sandramaryb · 11/04/2008 20:12

thanks bebespain I'll check it out. Where are you living?

Just outside Madrid so quite a long way from you. However DS was born in Andalucia, in Ronda as DH was sent to work there!

How long have you been in Spain?

sandramaryb · 11/04/2008 21:50

we been living here for 9 years and still can't get the hang of the subjunctive! I've only visited Ronda once but it looks lovely. I haven't really travelled too far afield as my DH has ME and only manages about an hour in the car. So we have only really explored a bit of Andalucia. I keep threatening to buy a camper van and take him on a Spanish tour!

There don't seem to be any threads re. living in Spain. I suppose everyone is chatting on mumsinspain.com

Have you been living here long?

Oooh thats a long time! We´ve only been here 2 years.

Yes the subjunctive is a tricky one isn´t it!?

That camper van idea is a good one, I´d love to be able to do that!

I´m sure there must be more people out there that live in your area - maybe there´ll be someone along later. We visited Cadiz when we were in Ronda, it´s a lovely city and great seafood

Oh, there are loads of ex-pats here in El Puerto de Santa Maria. Can't get away from them! I've met some nice international friends here, who have kids and it such a small town that it is easy to see the same people all the time. My kids go to local schools and making friends with the Mums who speak incomprehensible Andalusian took a bit of getting used to but they are so sweet to me and the children. I know at the back of their minds they don't really understand why we have moved far away from our families as they are so family orientated.

I have only had a quick look at mumsinspain and it looks interesting - thanks again for the tip let me know if you are ever in Cadiz again.

No probs

Oh remember all too well the shock of the Andaluz accent I hadn´t realised just how different it is - almost like a completely different language! It was funny as despite my DH being Spanish they would often having trouble understanding him so I had no chance! My ante-natal classes were a nightmare!

chicca · 15/05/2008 10:12

yes, i am in Arcos de la Frontera and come to El Puerto quite a lot. Just did a book fair at EL Centro Ingles as I sell Usborne books foro kids (when I have any time!)
Are you in El Puerto itself?

sandramaryb · 17/05/2008 13:28

Hi chicca, it's nice to meet you. I live just down the road from the English Centre.

I think a Scottish friend of mine bought some of your books at Christmas, like a christmas package - they were nice. Her OH works in TECs.

Have you been in Arcos long?

Hi there, Yes I know who you mean! We are moving over your way in the next few weeks. Looking for somewhere to rent for a year if you know of anywhere? We've been in Arcos 6 years now. You?

This thread is fairly old but wondering if anyone still around to tell me a little about the state primary schools in Cadiz in general? Am going to scout the area in August could you enlighten me as to areas you think are nice to settle down with a small family please?
Thanks
