I know this doesn’t quite belong here but not sure where else to ask.
Dual nationality uk/australian born in Oz but lived here most of life and married here decades ago. I now can’t get a British passport because my old Oz one is in my maiden name and they must match.
The consulate have told me I have to register my current name in the State I was born but to do this I need to get ID document copies confirmed by an Authorised Witness.
The websites only refer to people born, resident and married in Australia and I need to know if costly Public Notaries or the consulate are the only places to get this done for marriages that take place overseas in the U.K.
I called the RBDM in the relevant State but they were supremely unhelpful. The UK Passport Office could tell me nothing and the Consulate said they could give no assistance. I can’t believe it is so difficult and costly to obtain what will be my third British passport since I changed my name. It will have cost well over £500 by the time it’s sorted so that’s my holiday gone in any case.
