Potential move to Australia with kids

We have the opportunity to move to northern Queensland with my husbands work (we’ve never been there before) good money, although I would need to get a job once youngest was in kindy/prep. Good relocation package.
we have close friends living in the Town we would be living who have similar age children to ours.
our kids are 8,4 and 10 - I’m just so worried they won’t be ok and won’t settle and I hate the thought of them sad, and resenting me later in life. Im also not sure I can cope with the stresses of moving our whole life from UK to Australia (selling house etc- need the money from the sale) but also I don’t want to crush my husbands dream of a better life for us all. I’d like to be brave enough to go but I’m so worried.
just after some opinion or positive stories - we have to make final decision in a few days. This would be our last chance (visa wise)as husband is in his forties…

@Anotherhood it sounds like it would suit you well actually! It does get hot in the summer, but houses have air con and when we were there it was perfectly fine - quite pleasant really as it tends to cool down in the evening as the heat comes from the sun rather than boiling humid air.

We lived in two places - firstly in Hyde Park which was close to the centre of the city. It was great - nice shops and restaurants and we could get the tram or drive to work in 10 minutes.

We then moved to the Adelaide Hills - about 10 mins further out to an area called Blackwood, close to Belair National Park. It was very nice, slightly cooler and Belair park is lovely. You can also live near the beach very easily.

Schools are good and the cost of living and houses are definitely better than in Sydney.

Can I ask what makes you say that re Adelaide? It’s the second negative comment and it’s one of our options. 🫣

They are being mean. Adelaide is bloody awesome!

Brisbane is ok but the humidity would kill me, and it’s getting expensive there too. It is a bigger city than Adelaide though - like moving to Leeds as opposed to Chichester.
Honestly though I would encourage anyone to move to Aus, we got a fab life here and jobs like police and HR are great as you can work anywhere.

One thing to look into is getting residency. Think there is an age limit. UK Friends have just moved back to UK (both highly sort after language teachers ) as they couldn't get Oz residency - think they lived there for 5 years at least. This meant they couldn't access certain things - affordable Uni education etc for their kids..They both had been working full time, paying taxes etc ...

We get permanent residency for the family through the police.

Be very prepared for exhausting relentless humidity and very dangerous UV levels. Found that we went outdoors much more in the UK wet/snow than in QLD.

Many parts (most) of Queensland are beautiful to visit but I would struggle to live there.

You do get used to the heat and the humidity to an extent but QLD in the summer is very sweaty!
Adelaide and Sydney don’t tend to be humid although Sydney has verged that way the last couple of years - we’ve had a more sun tropical hot wet summer whereas it used to be drier. It’s fine though, life is very set up for the hot days.
What I found when I first moved here was that I was in the English frame of mind of “sunny day, must get outside and make the most of it!” but now after many years here I know that the default weather setting is nice sunny day and so you can afford to squander them if it’s too hot 😁
