Mortgage Portugal (Fixed or variable)

We are applying for a mortgage in Portugal and have been offered 2.9 % fixed rate for 5 years. Is this a good idea? Or should we get the variable?

Anyone with experience or living in Portugal who can advise.

2.9% sounds pretty good to me so I'd go with it. I have a mortgage in Spain which is about 3.25% for the life of the loan (you don't remortgage here) so I would have been happy with your rate.

Thanks. It does sound good

Bumping for a few more opinion. DH thinks interest will go down so keen on variable rates but repayments are a bit high.

In Portugal if we make overpayments can you remortgage at some point if we are on a variable rate.
