Hello,

DH has been offered an expat in Greenville SC for three years starting in 2026. We’ve done a one year expat in Germany before when the kids were little and loved it. My worry is they will both be in primary school by then…my eldest is in reception now and really enjoys it, we’ve seen her confidence grow and she’s really flourishing in the school environment.

We’d be pulling them out in year 2 and reception, then coming back for years 5 and 3. Does anyone have any experience of doing something similar?

Ive always thought you couldn’t (or should avoid) moving children around when in school, but it just seems like a brilliant opportunity so I’m in two minds.

Thank you :)

ooooh, I'm usually the voice of "try it and see" but that is really not a location I would choose. Upstate South Carolina is one of the most conservative, churchy parts of the US. It's home to Bob Jones University. Don't expect top quality education there to be quite honest.

Yes the “south” part is also kind of putting me off….DH work would pay for private education though and there’s an international school so maybe would be less churchy???
