Moving to Dublin?

hoping for some advice - my husband has just been offered a job in Dublin. It’s a good offer but we are looking at overall quality of life for us and our 3 young children - one in primary. Anyone done this? Thoughts on what it’s like/if you’d recommend/nice areas to live/good schools (state or private, preferably secular unless the religious ones are much better?)
(I’m hoping I’ll be able to transfer there with work too, or find similar there)
thanks all!

Reposting from my craicnet thread:

Hi all, thanks so much for your help so far. So we’ve visited Dublin, looked at a few of the areas you’ve recommended (skerries, malahide, howth, marino, clontarf, swords) and so far I like howth a lot but it’s too long a commute to the airport I think? And I also liked Clontarf. We want to look around Dublin 20 also and also maybe a bit closer to the centre of town. Anyway - we’re making the move!! Arghhhh I’m terrified. Have no friends or family there! But looking forward to the adventure. My question now is: any recommended schools or crèches? (In the whole Dublin north area but specifically near to Clontarf, or maybe Dublin 20, or around glasnevin or swords…)? Private or state. I’ve got boys!

Mount Temple in Clontarf (where U2 went to school) is popular but very hard to get into unless you are Church of England/register with a Church of Ireland parish here … even then, no guarantees but ring the school to check … what age are your boys? It’s a secondary school

On that website there is a link to "Find A School"

Depending on the age of your child(ren), you might be looking at a primary or secondary school.

Primary schools (in the majority) are run under the directorship of the Archbishop of Dublin though some schools are now Educate Together (multi-denominational) or Gaelscoil (schools taught through the Irish language).

You should be able to find out details of schools and most have websites to their school to check out.

For secondary you could check King's Hospital School. It's coed.

Start looking soon.

Thanks for posting this @whattodo235 We are also moving to Dublin for hubby’s job and going in a couple of weeks. We found a place to rent in Harold’s Cross as we wanted to be central as I’m also going to be flying back to London for my job quite frequently. We pondered about going north for the airport but his job is south so we thought central was a good compromise… Managed to get our two boys (2 & 4) into a nursery. I’m wondering what Dublin is like in terms of shopping: is it as easy as the U.K. for online groceries etc? Very excited to get to know Dublin!

Online groceries are available, Tesco and Dunne's Stores grocery. Typical price of delivery E6-10.

Yes all shops deliver groceries and you can even get deliveroo , Amazon etc. Most clothes shops deliver and the UK shops don’t charge customs .
