Applying for passport during trip back home

Have anyone recently applied for a first passport? My dc have dual nationality, so I've never bothered with their British passports, but keep thinking I should. Is it feasible to do the one-day application next time we are in the uk and has anyone done this recently and would be willing to share their experiences?

Is there a reason why you need to apply whilst in the UK? We recently applied for DS first UK passport and just applied from abroad online, you don’t need to be in the UK to do it. It was exactly 2 weeks from me posting them the supporting documents to receiving his passport here. Just beware that if you’re born after 01.01.83 then the requirements are a pain. We had to provide birth certificates for both DH and I plus our parents (so DS grandparents) birth and marriage certificates.

Its 7 days for children... they have to post the passports to you.

The quickest method for children is the 7 day service

@swissrollisntswiss I wasn't overly keen on sending originals of all of our certificates off and thought it might be easier to do when in the uk. Do you mind me asking if your children have another passport too? There is no way we want to send off their other passports and it looked from the uk government website as though we would have to send them in as supporting documents.
I was born in the 70s so no problems there, I hope.

Ah ok I’m not sure I’d want to send off passports either. Our DC only have British passports so we didn’t have that issue. I sent of birth certificate copies that we already had from the GRO instead of originals. If it helps, they do return everything by courier which requires a signature. You could also courier the documents there. As pp have said though, I’m not sure you can do a first passport same day unfortunately.
