Aging parents

We are going back to the UK this summer for the first time in 2 years. PIL are early 80s, have both suffered with several health issues and I am worried about seeing them and supporting them. SIL, who is lovely and has been dealing with them by herself ( no h or dcs) - so could use a break, and our dcs (11,17) who recently lost my stepdad. Dh has been in denial and I think it will be difficult.
MIL, who is lovely, has some memory problems and I am worried about how things are going to go.
Does anyone have stories of seeing parents / PIL after not seeing them for a while, seeing them decline due to age and how did you deal with it? Thanks so much.

Have you tried posting in Elderly Parents? - might get more responses there.
