lol at the little gadget. I have been waiting for weeks for my little gadget to fix the hall door. I even got the tools out yesterday and did the I-am-trying-to-fix-this-but-making-a-pigs-eye-of-it, as that normally works. Then he sighs loudly and tells me that I am doing it all wrong, "look, this is what you need to do"

SSSandy2 · 07/03/2008 12:59

wish that number worked here ks. Little gadget is supposedto fix a couple of tiles in the bathroom. Think it has been about 4 months so far.

finknottle · 07/03/2008 13:00

Funny, my gadget has a similar button you can push. It also talks when activated, "I told you I'd do that."

Perhaps I should namechange to KinderButt

finknottle · 07/03/2008 13:09

Do! Atm I see you as v small, round and chocolatey with plastic toy inside and tiny confusing assembly diagram.
As KinderButt? Mmm, let me think...

OP posts:
Kindersurpise · 07/03/2008 13:10

Well, small and round is about right, and when DS uses me as a napkin, I am chocolatey too.

finknottle · 07/03/2008 13:18

Without plastic innards though?
Are you a fan of KS? Did you know there is apparently a huge fan & collectors' scene?
Each to his own, I like playing with my compost heap

Must drag ds2 down for homework, then we switch to weekend mode.
Enjoy your weekends!

Kindersurpise · 07/03/2008 14:40

No, I am not a collector.

Oh, God, you don't all think that my MN name stems from a strange addiction to plastic tatt, do you?

Just had my friend's boy in for Nachhilfe. It is not very easy with him. He has a Schulaufgabe on Monday and I was revising allowed and able with him. He was writing things like, "I be able.." "They was allowed.."

How am I supposed to help him when he does not even understand basic English grammar?

I blame Ali G

admylin · 07/03/2008 16:41

Am I glad I don't have to learn English! Dh speaks terrible English, some of the mistakes I have to correct in his papers are unbelievable!

Have just been playing about with uploading photos (had to send dh some of his lab that he took yesterday) and I figured out how to do it on here so I've put some on profile.

Newplanet
Sounds sore, have they been able to do anything or have you just had pain relief?

Admylin
Your DCs are seriously gorgeous. They are both going to be heartbreakers in a few years.

Hi nttp, glad you like Bavaria. I don't know it very well except for one holiday there 2 years ago. We got rained on a lot and sat in a tent drinking beer for 2 weeks. It was great!
My dh is in the same situation as yours, also German but has not lived here for 17 years so it was quite difficult for him to settle here as he had also become very anglicised.
Admylin, your children really are gorgeous.

Kindersurpise · 08/03/2008 21:02

Hi everyone,

There seems to be quite a few MNetters in Munich. DH's company HQ is near Munich so we might end up there eventually. The only thing that worrys me is the cost of housing (and of course the S)

Finished all my Easter stuff, even got my Easter tree up (though not decorated yet, must search the cellar to see if I can find the Easter deco).

DD was at a friends house today, they are a German/English family. It is a shame that the children speak German with each other. When I picked her up they were sitting in front of the TV eating sausage chips and beans. DD will be wanting a tray in front of the TV at home now.

admylin · 08/03/2008 22:13

HI, thanks everyone, teh dc have turned out alright haven't they! They got a good mixture, dh is Indian and I'm sort of classic Scottish looking (so I'm told!)

Well if Taipo is right and cod is instigating her crowd to infiltrate cliquey threads we'll just have to ban new members till the game is over like on one of the other cliques!

Mine love chips and beans too - and ds's all time favourite is a crisp sandwich. And of course marmite on toast for breakfast, all Germans are shocked at marmite, isn't it funny though, I've often wondered why we Brits have marmite but the rest of the continent doesn't.

Kindersurpise · 09/03/2008 00:23

Yummy, crisp sandwich. Shame I don't have crisps in the house.

I was just on the thread about strange things your DH does, and there was a big discussion about whether jam and marmelade belong in the fridge. I always assumed that this was a German thing, as DH and all his family keep their jam in hte fridge. I feel that there is a damn good reason that they are called preserves.

What about you lot? Fridge or not? And is it a German thing?

Admylin
Did not realise that you are a fellow Scot.

franke · 09/03/2008 10:53

Deffo a German thing - all our jam ends up in the fridge and still ends up mouldy as it happens. Nutella, of course, is a store cupboard item . Funny this thing about Marmite. dd who is German through and through can't bear the stuff, ds who is "an English boy" (as mil said when he was less than a week old) absolutely loves it. German dh loves it too although took a bit of persuading in the early days . I like it but I think Nutella is the food of the devil

taipo · 09/03/2008 11:33

I put jam in the fridge but not Nutella as it makes it impossible to spread. Don't know whether it's a German thing or not. Mil who is German never puts jam in the fridge and leaves loads of other things outside which I think definitely belong in there. Funny really as she is much fussier than I am about hygiene and cleanliness. My mum, on the other hand, puts everything in the fridge, including honey
Dc used to like Marmite but have gone off it now.

Kindersurpise · 09/03/2008 14:05

We are a Marmite free zone. None of us like it. Well, I assume the DCs don't like it, don't think that they have ever tried it.

One time I picked DS up from his Tagesmutter, she mentioned that he had eaten two Leberwurstbrod (Leberwurstbröde? Brode?). I had no idea that he likes Leberwurst.

CinderellaInCyberspace · 09/03/2008 14:12

Hi we are a jam in the fridge family
dd and I love marmite
ds who is in his words a half and half
also loves it

dh hates it

ps feel Im gatecrashing as im in Austria not Germany

franke · 09/03/2008 15:33

dh puts pickles in the fridge too. But leaves butter out in all weathers. Very odd behaviour

Kindersurpise · 09/03/2008 15:46

Franke,
Butter has to go in the fridge, I hate it when it is all soft and runny in the summer. Yuk.

hupa · 09/03/2008 15:54

Yep - jam in the fridge here and honey aswell if dh thinks he can get away with it. We have to buy two lots of butter. Mine stays out of the fridge so I can spread it and dh´s stays in the fridge so he can eat it like cheese - revolting.
