Has everyone had a bounty yet this morning? Feeling proud of myself for getting all my Easter cards off to the post yesterday. Does anyone else send cards for Easter or I am the only freak who still does all this stuff?!

I cancelled my hairdresser's appointment this morning because I felt too sick but in reality I think I was chickening out. I was going to get quite a lot cut off and have the colour changed drastically.

admylin · 07/03/2008 10:06

Good to know the kieferorthopädin was nice. Ours is abit strange and very ost-berlin in a way but he has been in his business for long enough and I went to him because a friend said she'd been to him with her older dc when they were small ( are now 18 and 21) so I reckoned he'd be long gone if his work wasn't up to scratch! Be prepared for a few headaches with dd, those braces that push the jaw to a different position can cause headaches at first - ds had them alot at first.

SSSandy2 · 07/03/2008 10:14

That doesn't sound good. I didn't want to do them when she was 4 because it all sounded so drastic to me and the dentist I had at the time (now retired) said her jaw would change and he wouldn't advise starting that early.

The Kieferorthopädin I saw back then has also retired. The new one was very nice, studied in London in fact, had a very nice manner with dd. Wish we didn't have to do this, sounds awful forcing the jaw to widen but she said it would need to be done or it would be too late to correct it.

SSSandy2 · 07/03/2008 10:19

tbh I'm a bit suspicious of dentists really. I always assume they do things that aren't really necessary for the money. My apologies to any dentists reading this but I do always have that lurking suspician!

Wondering if finks bought any new make-up yesterday after all. Have to say I haven't changed mine for years. That's bad, isn't it?! Do you wear much make-up admylin?

hupa · 07/03/2008 10:26

Hi,

I thought I´d just introduce myself. I´m in Hessen about half an hour from Kassel. I´ve got a dd and ds who are 5 and 3.

admylin · 07/03/2008 10:28

Make-up? I never used to leave the house wihout the full works on before had teh dc but now I don't bother. Bad I know but I don't see the point to take the dc to school and go round lidl with make up on! When I'm at home in the UK I do though, but I feel different here as if I'm just surviving through to the next day living day to day sort of but in England I feel like it's worth dressing nicely, I wear skirts even! Sorry but Germany is quite bad for me, califrau would know exactly what I'm on about, but I think you do too.

admylin · 07/03/2008 10:39

Hi hupa, how long have you been in Germany? I've been here too long! I have ds aged 9 and dd aged 8 at primary here in Berlin. Dh is jobhunting at the moment, up to now we might be going to Dallas, Hannover or Cardiff!

SSSandy2 · 07/03/2008 10:42

I bought myself a black winter coat this year (how typically Berlinerisch is that?!) It's calf length and I feel like Cruella de Vil in it if I don't have make-up on. I used to even wear eye-shadow when I lived in London. Can't imagine it nowadays though. Can't think when I last wore eyeshadow. I do wear mascara, a light foundation and blusher though.

Hi Hupa, wilkommen in der deutschen Ecke! Are you here long-term do you think?

SSSandy2 · 07/03/2008 10:45

of those Cardiff appeals most to me admylin. Always fancied my cottage in Wales (ask dh and dd, they will tell you "oh mummy and her cottage in Wales ")

I thought in Berlin it was the getting up so early thing that had destroyed my grooming. I can handle leaving home at 8, 8.30ish but school starting at 8 is just obscene for me. Am not an early morning person.

admylin · 07/03/2008 10:49

Yep, me too! Wales would be great. I have a sinking feeling that we might end up staying in Berlin though. Have to wait and see what the boss offers dh.

Anyway, things might change when the dc are a couple of years older and both at secondary then I might have the energy to attempt some more studying or training or whatever.

hupa · 07/03/2008 10:55

Unfortunately I think I am here long term. Dh is German and is really established here in his job, so unless we win the lotto I think we´ll be here for the long haul.

admylin · 07/03/2008 10:58

Thank goodness for Easy jet is all I can say!

taipo · 07/03/2008 10:58

Never wear makeup unless I'm going out for the evening, a very rare occurence. Maybe I should slap on a bit later for dd's very nice chess teacher.

Anyone else think we might be being inviltrated: no. 5 here. Be on your guard!

SSSandy2 · 07/03/2008 11:14

definitely pile it on for the chess teacher. I always do . Don't know why though (teacher complex?) because he isn't the least bit attractive!

SSSandy2 · 07/03/2008 11:21

codders stirring the waters again, eh? Thought she was occupied stealing teachers' mugs and doing fun things like that. The crazy bat.

Well we aren't exactly cliquey on here, everyone is wilkommen and we accept everyone who comes in, so don't think it is a mega achievement to infilitrate the German Corner. So far as I know the guns aren't loaded.

However anyone attempting it should remember to bring a pile of bounty bars with them.

taipo · 07/03/2008 11:44

lol, SSSandy.
Hi hupa, welcome. Am new on here myself and enjoying it immensely. I should be doing something more constructive like looking for a job but this is much more fun.

Kindersurpise · 07/03/2008 12:23

Hi there Mädels,

just spent most of the morning making a sign for the Kita Bücherbazaar, wish I had never volunteered now. We have a stall at the Ostermarkt on Sunday and I have to bake a cake, dye 3 dozen eggs, bake a cake and then go and stand in the freezing cold for an hours. Bäh.

It is good to be involved, but sometimes it pisses me off that it is always the same group of 10 or 12 parents who do things.

I try to wear make up every day, but often get up too late so dash to kita looking like death warmed up (and hat on to hide my hair). Most days I have a shower and put some make up on when I get home.

Hallo Hupa, and welcome!

Lol at infiltrators bunging a handful of Bountys to distract us. Is the plural of Bounty Bounties??

finknottle · 07/03/2008 12:39

I found Rolos here yesterday. There's very little I wouldn't do for a packet of Rolos....mmmm....
Wow impressive Kindersurprise Talking about Easter, am I the only one who Just Cannot blow out eggs? Yuck de yuck de yuck. Dh always has to do it.
Have volunteered to do the garden day (and it is a whole Saturday) in April. I'd rather wade in mud than bake cakes - other than fairy cakes, lol.

Kindersurpise · 07/03/2008 12:47

I am an absolute Un-Domestic Godess though, I normally leave things like this till the last minute then sit up till 2am painting eggs.

I am an eggblower though. Did you see the little gadget for blowing out eggs, you should get one, Fink.

SSSandy2 · 07/03/2008 12:48

I do the same most days KS ,at least in winter, drag myself out to that place , get back and shower and make myself decent.

Actually that really speaks against getting a job come to think of it... What sort of a job are you looking for taipo (if you haven't already mentioned it)?

Holy moly ks, you're a real Superfrau by the sounds of things, I have to admit I'd be one of the bone idle mums getting out of that one. Sounds like a lot of work.

And blowing out eggs is vile. So disgusting and I always think I'm getting salmonella poisoning from it too. The joys of motherhood, eh? Last year I didn't bother just hard-boiled them instead, then it turned out they were left standing around in the classroom for 2 weeks (oops) before they got painted so possibly not too good

SSSandy2 · 07/03/2008 12:50

What gadget is this ks? I was just wondering if a hairdryer would do it

Kindersurpise · 07/03/2008 12:51

Look here, in KinderButt. Don't you just LOVE the name of the company?

Kindersurpise · 07/03/2008 12:52

Oh, I hate it when you cannot link to a specific page. In the Easter stuff.

finknottle · 07/03/2008 12:53

I've got a little gadget. Its name is dh. It does tiling (very slowly), fixing the gazebo (even more slowly) sitting in saunas (a lot and very willingly) and atm keeping ds1 up far too late at the weekends playing Eternal Lands on the computer
