Quite poignant after what happened yesterday here in Australia.

So I drop ds2 off to kindy and the stand in teacher is Chinese Indonesian, ds1 meanwhile in yr 2 has Little Black Sambo as a reading book option in the book corner, I come home and am just flicking through the channels over my cup of coffee and the Wiggles have a segment in all singing all dancing animated with East Asian facial features in MANDARIN of The Underwater Big Band number.

And no one is batting an eyelid or making a deal out of any of it.

Anyone got any gripes with that, because I certainly haven't.

indeed indeed calif,
it makes such a difference from living in Haringey in the 90s ..... days of Bernie Grant etcetera etcetera. Everything seems so less forced over here.

So what's new in SoCal?

that sounds so cool. I'm in england, the only but of multicultural I get here is what alcohol to get and what country is it from. I'm pleased to know there's more out there.

Trader Joe's Califrau. I bet Whole Foods have Daffs too but they'll cost $$$$$$

You could always make ones out of egg boxes

Crikey - you have looked more or less everywhere.

I remember seeing a few pop up on campus last year but spring comes so late it was the end of may by the time they flowered! And there were only a handful of them anyway, not like the big clumps you get in the UK. I never realised I took Daffodils for granted.

ghosty · 14/02/2008 03:20

Oh Suzy - I know what you mean ...
I had lunch with my Aussie born Croatian friend last week followed by a business training meeting with my Aussie born Hungarian colleague at one of the local cafes owned by an Aussie born Lebanese bloke called John. On Friday I am spending an evening with another friend who is half Somalian, half Italian, married to an Aussie of Greek descent ... it's brilliant!

Can't believe they don't have Daffs in the US ...

I've been here for 5 years and I don't think I've ever seen a sheep.

I have to take DS to the zoo to see cows and

ghosty · 14/02/2008 03:38

Especially for Cali and OverRated

ghosty · 14/02/2008 03:39

and for Cali, to cheer you up

dooneygirl · 14/02/2008 03:43

Are we having a sheep discussion again? I would like to mention how many sheep Oregon has one more time.

OverRated · 14/02/2008 03:51

lol @ Dooney and her sheep

dooneygirl · 14/02/2008 03:54

Actually, I was just trying to get my name on 5 of the top threads. But then this person on the TTC thread came and posted and spoiled it all. I'm trying to figure out what I can say on that thread, but don't really belong there, as I have no desire for another one.

OverRated · 14/02/2008 04:07

lol Dooney!

This may be obvious CF but can't you buy the bulbs (online if necessary), stick them in the freezer for a week then pull them out into pots with warm soil and wait?

finknottle · 16/02/2008 15:57

Should've said earlier Cali. Have masses of daffs in wee pots and in the pass-it-on spirit, would've happily sent you some.
I get sent shamrock from Ireland for St P's in March.
Also am huge garden fiend (or should that be friend ) and can't bear to think of no daffodils
Or don't US customs allow foreign imports?
