We’re looking to move back to Oz. I would love your opinions on these two cities. similarities and differences, pros and cons. We’ve experienced Adelaide, but not Perth.

quick background on our family:

  • 2 DS- 3.5yrs & 8mnths
  • Dad A&E doctor, Mum primary teacher
  • Priorities- schooling, safety, housing, outdoor activities, food culture.

TIA to anyone would can provide insight.

Perth and Adelaide are quite similar as far as Australian cities go. For me, the main differences are:

Perth is a bit bigger than Adelaide. Perth’s population is over 2million, while Adelaide”s is around 1.4 million, and Perth’s is projected to grow much faster than Adelaide’s. Adelaide has more of a small town feel when compared to Perth.

Adelaide is closer to the other major cities and population centres in Australia. Perth is quite isolated compared to the rest of the country. Though Perth is closer to Southeast Asia, and is closer to the UK (flying from Perth to London will shave a few hours off your flight time than Adelaide to London).

Perth has some great beaches is generally better for outdoor activities, but Adelaide has the better food scene.

Perth has more of a ‘new city’ feel in terms of the architecture. Adelaide feels like a slightly older city in comparison.

I’ve found both cities to be quite clean and safe, and quite similar in that area.

Perth.

Accommodation is a severe problem in all cities, just so you know.
