Ordering online supermarket shop in uk from abroad without uk address?

Hello, does anyone know if the above is possible please?

I am in EU and I am trying to order groceries online for a UK based relative who is unwell.

I have just done a trial order on Tesco UK online, to be delivered to a UK address, and it won’t accept my credit card because my home address is in France.

Does anyone have any advice please? Is there a different way of doing this?

I would suggest ringing them up to ask

Your billing address does need to be in the UK.

Tesco are very responsive and helpful if you message them via Twitter.

Thanks very much for these responses.

I am a bit wary of Twitter, Mumsnet is the only sm I’m on , but I will have a look, thanks!

It seems odd to me that supermarkets don’t have a “guest” purchase option. I had the impression that everyone was ordering groceries from abroad to arrive at their holiday cottage in uk but maybe I have this wrong! Also it would be a great way of sending presents. I’ll be v disappointed if it’s not possible.

Try different supermarkets. I've ordered grocery deliveries to a UK address before and my credit card billing address is not in the UK. I don't have a UK card so this is for sure. I think I used Sainsbury's but might also have used a few other supermarkets.

PMAalltheway · 03/03/2023 15:46

If Tesco don't allow it then Amazon might? You can order from Morrisons through Amazon so may be another option for you?

mynameiscalypso · 03/03/2023 15:47

You can use PayPal with Ocado (and probably others) which might be easier?

I mean in the past year too.

Oh that’s fantastic information, thank you very much indeed everyone! Mumsnet is brilliant for this sort of thing. I knew there must be a way!

And, in the event that Ocado or Sainsbury’s don’t work, I had forgotten all about Amazon too!

Thanks again!

I'm in Italy and often send groceries to DD at university in the UK. Never had a problem with Sainsbury's or Asda. I've bought in the past stuff from Tesco, though not groceries, and had it delivered to a UK address. I haven't had a UK bank address since 1994!

So1invictus · 04/03/2023 11:53

Ocado works too.

Dont know about supermarkets but I know that marks and Spencer (clothes) accept delivery to UK address when bank card is registered to a French address. But Next don't....

So definitely try a different supermarket!

It irritates me I have to change M&S websites to get things sent to me (Italy) and DD (UK) though. And remember which Sparks account to use. 😂
I do order from Next, but the international site.

Thank you so much for these latest responses which I have only just seen.

This info is really helpful to me personally as well as for this specific purchase so I’m very grateful.
