Mums in Germany - need advice on skin product for DS

Evening ladies,
My DS has always suffered from ezcema which he thankfully grew out of,but still has sensitive skin. I moved out here with a tub of a soap substitute for bathtime. It ran out tonight. Is there anything I can buy in shops non-prescription to wash him with? I'm not familiar yet with brands, which ones are good, rubbish, natural products etc. He uses a touch of bubble bath with no problems, but it's washing his privates (!) that I need something for.

If you live out in germany now, you can go to any dermatologist, without a referral and they will prescribe whichever they find suitable.
For baths, you can use plain grapeseed oil or olive oil (but grapeseed is a bit better) and maybe put a few drops of lavender oil in, 9unless of ocurse your lil one would react to that.
Cream wise...Panthenol/Bepanthen is an over the counter cream, or lansinoh, but tbh, you will be good off to just ask at the local pharmacy (apotheke), they are very well trained and should be able to advice you.
Almond oil is, btw, also a favourite in german dermatologist circles...but of course, just like anyhting can cause adverse reaction.
as a general moisturiser you could use grapeseed or olive oil, too...but it does need time to be absorped...(but if you bath lil one in water just wiht a bit oil added, then you shouldn't even need extra moisturizing)

I like weleda products -they seem fairly 'organic' -no sodium lauerate sulphate etc and fairly easy to get in supermarkets etc -look in baby aisle.

Didn't realise till i posted that we had 'spoken' on my other thread (just updated!) How is kindergarten going for your ds? Hope he is still doing as well.

How's things? I think I might go get some Weleda products. I'm so close to delivery date for 2nd baby that I can't face appointments and travelling much to see dermatologists. maybe once things are more settled.
DS is LOVING Kindergarten. He still refuses to sleep there, which he still needs around midday. Maybe the novelty will wear off soon and he'll get some shut-eye. He's already talking a mix of German and English at home and is happy to chat away about various things he does there. It's wonderful - he's got buddies now, and a crush on one of the teachers!! Last two days has been no KG because of Fasching. He's dying to get back there.

Hi there - glad your ds is settling in so well.

Weleda is used by midwives a lot which I always found reassuring. The smell of Weleda's Calendula oil reminds me so strongly of when mine were babies; is a bit slippery if you use too much but is great after washing/baths.
I still use their Gesichtscreme fuer Kinder - even under duress from ds1 (now 11!) as he goes to school by bike. Told him the girls won't kiss him with wind-chapped cheeks!

You can get it at any pharmacy and I think Schlecker (like Superdrug) also stock it now.
Schlecker do online shopping (about the only shop which does) with free delivery over 15 euros. Fast and v convenient for baby wipes, nappies etc as well as household stuff you don't wan to lug home like dishwasher salt. Ask if you have any questions

Mind you, in Munich you may well have supermarkets which offer online shopping

Forgot to say that ime pharmacies here are excellent for offering alternative/natural products - esp for babies & children it's v easy to get non-petrochemical products.

Germans are much more into natural stuff - and our pharmacist, if they don't have what you want in stock, will not only order it but if it's urgent, will deliver it to your house on his way home on his bike for lunch/supper. Once I had 2 sick wee ones and was heavily pregnant so rang to make sure they stocked something before waddling out and he told me to sit tight, he'd bring it round
You can rent out scales and milk pumps too. They nearly all speak English too.

We have a simillar prob.The Dermatologist told me to use No soap at all.Not even for hands washing.Tough I do use it after going to publ. toilets.
She recomended only two creams Linola Fett and something called Unguentum cordes(you´ll get in a pharmac.)For washing the priv prts you can use PH neutral soap
