Hello. Any mumsnetters with recent experience of living in Doha? Especially with DC that are late primary/heading to secondary? Any info on cost of living; lifestyle; difficulties would be appreciated. Thanks

IMO

There is need, greed and insanity.

Qatar come under the heading of insanity.

Thanks for the input, but this is the living overseas forum. We are an expat family and have to move on every few years, Doha is on the table which is why I'm looking for some experiences, which you don't seem to be offering.

I'm in Doha. My kids are a bit younger but there's a lot of good school options around. School and housing are expensive. For housing you're looking around 12-15k a month (riyals), possibly more depending on what you're looking for. School is minimum 35000 riyal per year, up to around 70000 depending on age.

We spend around 1000 riyals a week on food.

Some hobbies are expensive. We pay around 2000 per term per kid per hobby (2 times a week for football/swimming). Lots of choice available though.

Internet and phone bills are around 700 riyal a month for two of us I think.

Not 100% sure about utilities.

We've been happy living here for the past 5 years. Enough to do with the kids along with compound lifestyle so there's always someone else for them to play with.

PM if you have any questions.
