So I got back from holiday this week and I really , really didn’t want to come home. if I won the lottery I would definitely move abroad.
So just being nosey, if you could move abroad tomorrow, where would you like to live?

🤣

What’s so hilarious about enjoying living in the USA? It’s not all rabid republicans and gun toting teenagers, although that’s what you’d be forgiven for thinking if you just watch the news.

NetballHoop · 02/11/2022 20:01

Uruguay or Chile. I know they have a "macho" culture but not as much as other countries and they are far far away from the current wars.

PermanentTemporary · 02/11/2022 20:59

The US every time, assuming I can afford a similar life to the one I have now. Northern California or maybe Vermont.

ThatsNiceEh · 02/11/2022 21:05

Somewhere warm and sunny, by the sea. Slower pace of life. Greece maybe?

I actually really love the UK though & think I would miss the 'proper' seasons we get here.

Crikeyalmighty · 02/11/2022 21:11

We have come back to UK from Copenhagen- (practical reasons to do so) but if there were no Brexit which has complicated things for us and our business then it's great choice and I miss a lot of things. I also really like Stockholm which we visited a lot. The scandis do many things extremely well and Copenhagen has nice beaches too just outside the centre

I think the choices people mention depend on all kinds of things, family situation, jobs and businesses , health and unfortunately you have to factor in whether it's actually possible and for many people without dual nationality/passports most places are now out of bounds without very significant cash or extremely specialist or significantly in demand work skills or the ability to be a digital nomad - but visas only given for a year at a time for that- which isn't great if you have a family and significant expense to move .

FindingMeno · 02/11/2022 21:14

A Scandinavian country, or Ireland.
I wouldn't weep though if I ended up on a Greek island.

I have family returning here from Northern California, they've had enough. Homelessness, drugs, crime, high college costs and wildfires.

Notanotherusername4321 · 02/11/2022 21:43

Canada probably.

Peanutbuttermonster · 02/11/2022 21:44

Canada - preferably British Columbia, somewhere pretty but not massively far from Vancouver.

Vicliz24 · 02/11/2022 21:54

Corfu . A little mountain village in the North of the island . With my dogs .

Fairislefandango · 02/11/2022 21:57

These kinds of threads always make me suspect people are only considering the upsides and none of the downsides of the places they want to move to, and vice versa with the UK. There are lots of places where I didn't want to come home from my holiday, but holidays aren't like real life.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere where the temperature regularly gets above 30°. I'd quite like to live somewhere less rainy though. Mind you, I could manage that in the UK as I live in Cumbria Grin

midsomermurderess · 02/11/2022 22:12

Fairislefandango It's just a bit of day dreaming. It is patronising when people turn up on threads like this to sternly tell us, no where's perfect, x isn't a utopia. Thanks, but really don't bother. We are not the daft little airheads you think we are.

Wailywailywaily · 02/11/2022 22:19

I’d love to live in the US, on a ranch with lots of dogs and horses and the mountains in the distance.

Fairislefandango · 02/11/2022 22:23

Confused I don't remotely think any of you are little airheads. The original question sounded quite literal rather than day-dreamy - as in where would you actually move to if you genuinely could. And it's not just me - other people are giving factual reasons from their own experience why some of these destinations are not necessarily so desirable.

Rockingcloggs · 02/11/2022 22:25

Tromsø. Especially now it's winter and will be dark.

RosesAndHellebores · 02/11/2022 22:34

SW France, plans already in place.

Unicorn1919 · 03/11/2022 14:46

I live overseas right now, but if I could up-sticks I'd move to Grand Cayman. We have horrible winters and I just want to live somewhere warm!
