Veerrry interesting ...

www.demographia.com/ Follow this link and then check out the 4th Annual Demographia International Housing Affordability Survey. I am in Sydney which is bad enough, but it could be worse - I could be paying off a house in LA

The amount of packaging in Tesco horrified me. Why do 4 apples need to be in a tray wrapped in plastic - what's wrong with just bunging them in your trolley?

MrsJohnCusack · 26/01/2008 19:01

packaging is my pet hate
I am tempted to be one of those people who goes into supermarkets and unwaps things as a protest. even those little things that you put on your plastic bags drive me mad

I KEEP forgetting my reusable bags when I go to the supermarket, it is really annoying me

Sibble · 26/01/2008 19:01

I know, last time I was home (and I LOVE shopping) Tesco's freaked me out I couldn't decide what I wanted and headed home with nothing to make a complete meal with

I am proud to be the one crank in our local Tesco who always carts a load of calico bags in, and always have done.

I find it infuriating that everything here is so packaged. There's lots of fresh stuff I don't buy often just because it comes packed in bags bigger than I can use.

Shells · 27/01/2008 00:59

I get SO cross with myself when I forget my resuable bags and have to take evil plastic ones. And then they get stockpiled at home coz can't bear to throw them out and then start to feel like mad old woman...

Other pet hate is trying to stop the check out people (this was much worse in UK) from double bagging everything. Packet of sausages, already in plastic, then another separate plastic bag and then into plastic carrier bag. .
And then they huff and puff when you say you don't need all the bags. Sigh.

twentypence · 27/01/2008 02:49

The plastic bags I do get are used as bin liners, donated to kindy to put wet undies in if a kid has an accident, used to wrap clothes I am selling on Trade Me, before I use a section of newspaper and cellulose tape, or when my parents are here (mum cannot do it - she just can't I have no idea why) I can put them out with the recycling. I don't like this option as the bag has only been used for around 10 minutes but my mum is an old dog and is incapable of new tricks.

MrsJohnCusack · 27/01/2008 03:54

yes same for me on plastic bags
I give them to preschool, also charity shops quite often want them

FOURBOYZ · 27/01/2008 04:01

Dosen't it just annoy you when supermarkets have MORE plastic bags next to fruit and veg?
I thought they are all supposed to be doing there bit, towards 'helping the planet'..??

Sibble · 27/01/2008 19:51

what annoys me most is when you carefully place all your fruit and veggies in the trolley loose, then get to the checkout and they try to place them in little plastic bags before weighing. If I wanted the little plastic bags I'd have done it myself .

Packaging for toys etc is my personal thing arrghh

MrsJohnCusack · 27/01/2008 22:27

oh yes with those bloody little ties around EVERYTHING

most of our toys now wooden or from charidee shops so I don't have to bust a blood vessel at teh packaging

and yes re the bags. just stop trying to give me the damn bags!
