and i hate HATE that awkwardness at the airport.
don't fight it. just have lots of tissues on hand.

well my dad has already asked me to do some research in to what it would take for 2 retired poms to come and live here ....

We've all had a very good time, my mother's verbal diaorrehea not with standing, but of course I ask myself; "why can't we have lunch at the river every Sunday etc etc"

mine usually come to stay for 5-6 weeks. by week 2 i'm ready for them to leave but then bawl when they do go!

mine were here for a month, I have just returned from the airport, blubbed a little, had a big big blub last night. I just feel sorry for the poor things going back to the gloomy cold.

Where are you and where are your folks?

I used to do this! It got to the point I even cried when I met people from the airport. In fact, they only have to show people coming through arrivals on TV and I blub now!

Do you think I've spent too much time in airports?

I can't say I usually get tearful, but my top tip would be to say goodbye at home, so it's easier not to cry as it doesn't seem real yet, then at the airport, just drop them at the drop off point, brisk goodbye, what with all the cases and coat getting together it's all be bit busy and too much going on to cry. better then lingering drawn out tearful farewells imo.

tho when I worked at the airport I did used to find the tearful farewells entertaining esp young couples somehow.

Not as big a difference as you have, but still hard.
At least your parents would consider moving to where you are. Mine won't even come for Christmas (elderly parents and other kids at home who are apparently more important than little o' me!)
They usually come in September for DS's birthday which is nice though.
The airport was horrible this time. they were held up for something like 8 hours but weren't allowed to leave the airport and DS was acting up and in the end we had to leave them there and go home. it was torture knowing that they were still in the country but not with me.
