Moving to France 🇫🇷

We are packing for the move in August. My daughter is 16 and looking forward to going to the local lycée, we have been in touch with them and they are very relaxed, I've emailed them to confirm dates for inscription in July but no reply?
I love the area we are moving to in Burgundy and we already have a house, so much to do, I just keep getting cold feet about it all! Some days I think its a great idea and other days I'm really anxious. Is this normal?

Said child (now 23) would say that it is very difficult to negotiate all the teen social pitfalls in a language in which you don't think and dream.

Internat and seconde is a very good decision. Good luck to you both.

Thanks @frenchfancy

Definitely, seconde in an internat sounds perfect. Please keep us updated! Bonne chance

Just wanted to give a quick update. My DD is doing well and really enjoying internat. She's made loads of friends everyone has been lovely and the teachers have been very supportive. I was dreading it thinking we had made a terrible decision but my DD is happy and that's the most important factor for me. What I wasn't prepared for is all the stationery and books we had to buy and a €70 calculator! The lycée has great facilities and the food is brilliant! Thanks all for replying 😀.

That's a lovely update OP.

Glad things seem to be working out.

Are you settling in too?

Frenchfancy · 12/09/2022 18:35

Ah yes, the 70€ calculator! Given that they had to have a different 50€ one in college that was a bit of a bummer.

Glad things are going well.

I've just read your whole thread. I'm really glad she's got off to such a positive start! I'd be very interested to hear how she gets on over the coming months.

such an interesting thread! I love it when people make radical moves 👀

Thank you 😊 six months on and my daughter is still enjoying it and achieving an overall of 14 in her grades so I don't think that is too bad considering. I'm still learning French and hoping to look for a job. I am finding the French people very friendly.

14 is quite a good grade in the French system in Première! Nobody ever gets 20, 18 are very rare, so think of it as 14/16!

MmedeGouge · 11/02/2023 12:07

I’m so pleased to read your update.
A very positive start for you both.
I wish you every success in France.

babyjellyfish · 11/02/2023 12:18

Well done to you and your daughter, OP. Glad things are going well. I'm in France too. waves

Re the cost of books etc, have you registered with the CAF ? This year you might qualify for the ARS - allocation rentrée scolaire - if it still exists it was nearly 300€.
