Buying a present for friend on Oz

Hope I've posted in correct place.

My friend has a big birthday coming up she lives in Oz and I live in the uk. I want to send her something for her birthday but it just costs so much in postage without the cost of the gift and money's tight at the moment. Is there anyway I could maybe have some flowers sent to her but get them sent direct from
Oz? There are a lot of websites but they're all charging in Australian dollars.

Just message them or place an order. They will charge you in your currency and it's really not a problem.

The smaller florists near where your friend lives usually do nicer flowers than the big chains IME.

@LovelaceBiggWither thank you so much. I didn't think of that at all!

Pay in dollars. Your credit card company will convert it, bill you in £, and add a couple of £ handling fee. Or if you have PayPal and can find a company that take it, they'll tell you the cost in £ before you complete the transaction.

Amazon is great for this. Yes, I know it’s bad to feed the conglomerates, and I don’t know if they do flowers, but honestly it’s the most practical method for avoiding postage and excess import taxes. You need to go on the Australian Amazon page and order from there. Your Amazon account will still work. Amazon gives you a choice of paying in the ordering countries currency or the currency associated with your card. They just calculate a fair-ish exchange rate. If you have good international options on your credit/debit card then it might be slightly cheaper to pay Australian dollars, but if you don’t and you’re likely to get significant bank charges for paying in a foreign currency then Amazon’s option of paying in your usual currency with their exchange rate will probably work out better.

I bought gifts from Australia for my Aussie family for Christmas. One family got a hamper from everybodyloveshampers (I chose the items individually) one got a variety of things from Amazon and for the others I chose some jewellery from Etsy. If you get the Etsy app you can filter your answers to include only sellers based in Aus.

I'm in Aus and have this in reverse for our Irish family.

I just google toy shops in Ireland (as it's usually for my DN!) and go to their local website to order. I'm charged in € but I can figure it out in A$.

Thank you all so much. That's really useful! The hamper sounds like a nice idea xxxx

Even if you use interflora or amazon, there never ever should be import taxes. The flowers are assembled in the country you order them for.

Flatandhappy · 23/01/2022 06:42

There is a lovely Australian flower company called Floraly - Floraly.com.au. Their "seasonal natives" bouquet is particularly nice and lasts for ages.

iloveyankeecandle · 23/01/2022 17:43

@Flatandhappy I've just looked and they look good and reasonably priced. How do you order from them?

Flatandhappy · 24/01/2022 10:31

You order through their website, I assume your credit card would get charged in Aussie dollars. They are pretty helpful so I would e-Mail them if you have questions before ordering.

There was another thread recently about sending presents to Australia, I saved this recommended link as my DBro is out there.

iloveyankeecandle · 24/01/2022 20:50

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads thanks for this, I've just found the most perfect bracelet for her through this website!!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 24/01/2022 20:53

@iloveayankeecandle fabulous!

justjuggling · 26/01/2022 00:41

I googled and found a fabulous deli near to where my friend lives in Perth, emailed them and told them my budget and they put together an amazing hamper and delivered it to his house! They even included a mini birthday cake!

iloveyankeecandle · 26/01/2022 06:26

@justjuggling that's a lovely idea. I'll have a look at sending her cake too

Hey if you want to send flowers to a person residing in Australia then definitely you have to try out https://www.lvly.com.au/collections/brisbane-metro. They have a really beautiful collection and you can also customize the bouquet of your choice which was my personal FAV. I had ordered from them once which had to be delivered to Brisbane for this Mother's Day and she really loved the native flower Bouquet. You can give it a try.

Flower Delivery Brisbane

SAME DAY DELIVERY if you place your order before 4PM AEDT, 7-days a week.
