Would you rather move to Lisbon or Barcelona?
With a child, as a European family (none of us being Spanish nor Portuguese).

Wasn't this asked yesterday?

Babibel · 08/12/2021 09:11

@Shedmistress It was! In AIBU...I thought maybe I'd get better opinions here.

Lisbon - Barcelona is so overrun with tourists

But some will say one, some will say another and in the end you will presumably go with the one you prefer?

Barcelona. It's AMAZING. I know lots of expatty people having a lovely time there.

Lisbon is heavenly too, but small.

I guess it depends on your idea of the perfectly sized city though! Probably more jobs and opportunities in Barcelona though, maybe?

Have you visited both? I would definitely live in Barcelona, having been to both a couple of times.

How are your languages? Portugese is (IMO) a lot more difficult than Spanish, but it would be Catalan in Barcelona, anyway.

I love both places, but would probably be swayed by my language competence.

BARCELONA! Barcelona!!!! I lived in Sydney now and still miss it dearly. Amazing museums, gorgeous parks, lovely people, you go to the beach till November and then you go skiing ! You jump in a plane or ferry and go to Ibiza.

Yes there are tourist, but last time I was in London, there were tourists in the tourist spots, not so much or not at all in the not tourist spots.

There is a ton and more of stuff to do with kids, for kids, and they are welcome everywhere at any time of the day. Very happy place!

so no hesitation! BARCELONA!!!!! seriously, the beaches! You can even live in Gava, 20 min train from the city center/

I love both cities but would rather live in Barcelona. It feels more international so I think acclimatising would be easier.

Lisbon. I loved living there for 18 months. I've only visited Barcelona, although did live in another part of Spain for a while. Portugal over Spain any day of the week.

I've only lived in Barcelona so can only recommend that. Yes lots of tourists, so just don't live on las ramblas!

Many many English speakers, and many companies that employ English only speakers and do business in English, so it's a very easy place for English speakers to live. Also gorgeous places nearby around Catalunya to live or visit if you want to escape the city at some point.

I've never been to either but have friends living in both. Barcelona sounds exciting but can be rough. Never heard a bad word about Lisbon. People seem to love it.
