Hi everyone, there is a possibility my husband is getting a 3 year post in RAF Akrotiri next year, we have 2 young daughters aged 5 and 2 and was hoping to find some other mums who have lived on married quarters and to get some advice for the children. Thanks xxx

No advice I'm afraid, but I'm envious! I had a friend who was posted with her family to Akrotiri when her children were small and she absolutely loved it. From what I've heard and photos I've seen it's a great posting.

(Not bitter at all that in 16 years married to an airman I didn't get to live anywhere more exotic than Norfolk...)

I lived at the other end of the island.

It was fab for young children... the base schools tend to have relatively small classes for example. (One of mine was in a class of 16, the other in a class of 22, with TAs us the teacher). There was swimming lessons, Youth club, dance, football, martial arts, Guides and Scouts etc available.

Rent was very cheap... we saved up loads.

Warmer weather.
Eating out was so cheap.
Watermarks, beaches etc
Most people put a pool in the garden

Downsides... not many employment opportunities for spouses.
Five hour flight to see family.
Heat in summer

The current Head of the Primary school was Head of my DDs school when we were in Germany. He was very good.

My friend was posted out there when her son was small.
She loved it-
Her favourite posting. She goes occasionally these days (still in army) and is always excited.

(Sorry possibly not that helpful)
