Any tips on finding a flat share in Berlin?

Ds has just moved to Berlin and has already found a job though friends but he needs a permanent address first. He's in a temporary place until the end of the month. He really wants to start working but needs to have an address from which he can register I think. He's been asking everyone and looking on online groups, etc, but No luck yet. I thought the wisdom of MN might be able to help!

There may be listings up at the universities? - there's a bunch of them

If he is on Facebook, he should search for expat groups in Berlin and also look on marketplace.

He might be able to take over a lease from another expat.

WG gesucht seems to be popular

It can be quite challenging to find a good place at the moment as there is a real shortage of properties ( lots of landlords are looking at Air bnb or are going up market to cash in on the gentrification of lots of the old WG ( german for flatshare) areas.

Also bear in mind that most places eill be completely unfurnished... (some flats will even need flooring and a kitchen sink!)

Fully furnished places do seem to have a massive premium applied
