Does anyone or has anyone lived in Finland? Expat move to Helsinki on the cards and would love to hear from anyone who has lived there

I would recommend you join the Facebook group Brits in Finland. They have 1,500 members and they can give you a lot of advice.
When you are resident in Finland, but not before, you can join After Brexit Brits living in the EU27. They only except people who are resident in an EU country.
Good luck.

My son lives in Tampere. He loves it.

I love Finland, the culture, the natural beauty, the beautiful design....oh I could go on. Plus it’s easy to live there if you are a little introverted in nature. I envy you OP.

Helsinki will be more expensive than Tampere but DS rent is lower than he was paying in a Midlands city for a smaller flat. Not only that but his rent now includes heating and broadband. The block also has an electric car that can rent on an hourly basis at a reasonable cost. Beer is expensive though.

The expensive alcohol is a worry I must say! We are moving from close to NYC so used to high cost of living.

Does anyone have any thoughts on Espoo vs Helsinki for expat family life?

AFAIK, Helsinki of course is city center and Espoo is suburbs. My contact who lives there loves Espoo as there are plenty of woodlands and parks on their doorstep, and they can easily go in to Helsinki on public transport if needed.
